Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is at par with those of premier technical institutes in India. The faculty is highly proficient with research and industry expertise from premier institutes and companies. I chose Mechanical Engg. at BIT Sindri, given its reputation over the years, strong alumni base of 70+ years, and exceptional faculty. Technical courses are divided into theory and practical, with active experimentation and projects across the versatile lab facilities Term exams are timely conducted and passing requires moderate to the high effort, based on the subject. Backlogs are difficult to clear, so first attempts are always taken seriously. Strict anti-cheating policies shape effective exam experience at BIT Sindri.
Internships Opportunities :
Internship opportunities are few for core branches. Tata steel, JSL, Aditya Birla Group, Tata wires, etc. provide internships to core branches. CSE, IT & ECE are offered internships by Amazon, Google, InfoEdge, etc. Vocational training opportunities are immense at SAIL, HEC, Tata Steel, NTPC, etc.
Placement Experience :
Placements are at par with eminent engineering colleges, with Computer Science & IT branches gaining popularity with high packages. Prominent companies like Tata Steel, JSL, Vedanta, Amazon, Samsung, etc., visit the campus and hire in double digits. The highest package offered was by Amazon of INR 44 LPA and the average package varies branch-wise, being close to INR 5-6 LPA. Almost all students get placed, but a major student goes for higher studies.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Fees hike happened after the affiliation was switched to Jharkhand University of Technology, Ranchi. However, a 4-year B.Tech program at BIT Sindri costs approx. INR 2,00,000, including average personal expenses. Examination fees are INR 1650 per semester and per backlog registration. Student fund is around INR 7000 per annum for General and OBC-1 males, while waivers apply to others. Hostel charges are INR 5000 (Maintenance) & INR 2000 (Electricity) per annum. Mess charges are usually INR 3000 per month. Scholarships are provided by alumni and industry leaders based on merit and to students from economically weaker sections. Jobs are at par with other Engg. institutes and good profiles open for all branches.
Campus Life :
Technical fests (Sandhaan) happen around April, while Cultural fests (Sharad Utsav) happen either in November or March. The library is rich in technical content with the latest journals, course books, and news articles. The late submission fee is minimal at INR 0.25 per book per day after the stipulated duration of issuance. Classrooms are provided with adequate seats, ventilation, and projectors for smooth presentation-based learning Sports facilities are immense with a club ground catering to most sports, including a gym The basketball court is close to the club ground. Girls hostel complex has a separate ground for sports facilities. BIT Sindri has several clubs segregated based on technical, cultural, social, and admin clubs. The official student media body of BIT, Sarjana caters to all journalistic and PR of the college, along with serving as an editorial board to its official annual magazine.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostel rooms are spacious with adequate ventilation. Beds, study tables, chairs, and cupboards are provided to all students. Rooms are given on a shared basis, except for the final-year male students who get single rooms. Students can opt out of hostel registration and stay outside as day scholars, renting PGs right outside the campus in the town of Sindri.
