Tripura University was formerly a wing of Calcutta University but eventually, it has become a Central University. The university is always known for its quality education & technological innovation in the field of academic & research achievements.
The university has a total number of 46 departments offering 58 programs. Tripura University has Science, Arts & Commerce faculty under which all the UG, PG, PG Diploma and Integrated courses are offered. In multiple specializations, all the programs are provided by the institution.

Tripura University offers several Scholarship facilities for the meritorious, financially poor and reserved category students. Some of the scholarships are described below:
- Post Matric Scholarships Scheme for ST, Tripura: This assistant is for students who are in class 11 to post-graduation level at a recognised Indian institution and the annual family income should not exceed INR 2 LPA.

- Library: The central library of the university has a strength of 250 students at a time and while building is wifi enabled. The library is well equipped and well versed with the print books, print Journals, CD/DVDs, Thesis/Dissertation, reports, newspapers, e-journals and e-books into it. The users of the library have access to more than 30,000 e-books, 14 online databases through e-ShodhSindhu.
- Hostel: The university have 24*7 internet connection and fully computerized. The facility comes with the capacity of 60 & 110 seats for both girls and boys. 50 seats are allotted for the research scholars. The hostel has common rooms, TV and mess facilities.
- Games & Sports: Every year various games & sports events are conducted by Tripura University Sports Board.
