Ques. How is the career growth after one year MBA from IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Indore)?

● Top Answer By Keshav Jindal on 19 Mar 21

Ans. First of all, let me take my time to shatter some of the prevalent myths regarding a one-year MBA, such as: Class timings are flexible. You attend classes according to your job.  You should know that it is a one-year ‘Full Time' MBA program. Therefore, you need to be on campus and attend classes like a regular student.  You cannot continue the course with your job or take a furlough for this course because the classes run from 9 to 5 on all weekdays and may even run on the weekends. Proceeding towards the question, you are eligible for one year MBA if you are a professional with at least five years of work experience. There's clearly career growth after this course because, without this MBA, professionals with five years of experience are offered roles of mid or senior management. This transition is hard because companies don't hire you for high-paying jobs just on the basis of that much experience. Doing a one-year MBA proves better than settling for a below-average package.  This MBA course at IIMs assists you to establish your network that in turn helps you to switch to high-paying senior managerial jobs.  In the nutshell, most of the companies have started to value one-year MBA programs, you are most probably going to gain that extra edge in your career growth after pursuing this course. Even then, there might be some new HR's who are not up to date and may not open up to the one-year MBA Program. Read more

Ques. Does it make sense going for a 2-year MBA from IIM-Ahmedabad/Calcutta at 29 years of age?

● Top Answer By Ashish Tiwari on 15 Feb 21

Ans. Age is never the primary requirement for learning something new. You can easily go for a 2 year MBA course at IIM Ahmedabad or Calcutta at an age of 29. There are many success stories of people among us who have achieved greater heights even at an older age. Also this builds up the question that will you receive a good job after completing your MBA and will you be able to compete with the younger graduates to secure a job offer.  The answer is Yes.  Mostly it is seen that the recruiters reject the freshers saying they are way too inexperienced. This sometimes becomes an advantage for students with an experience of working in a competitive environment and under pressure. Consider this to be your asset and show your skills of managing your work in stressful situations. Categories IIM A IIM C Course Fee 10-23 lakh 20-24 lakh Placement Percentage 90-100% 100% Highest CTC 55-60 LPA 70-80 LPA Average CTC 23 LPA 27 LPA Institutes like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta most of the time prefer experienced candidates rather than freshers. Even if you do not get a job offer during on-campus placements, there are plenty of opportunities in off-campus recruitment. An IIM A or C tag will definitely land you a job in one of the top companies in India. So age is definitely not a barrier of sorts, if you get a chance to study in any of the IIMs among A, B and C, you should definitely consider it, and never let go of this opportunity. Because in the long run the experience, skills and degree are the things that matter.Read more

Ques. Which is better for an MBA with a finance focus, IIM Ahmedabad vs. IIM Calcutta? Please also read the notes below this question.

● Top Answer By Durgesh Rai on 11 Feb 21

Ans. My close friend is in the last month of his MBA at IIMA. He has interned in Credit Suisse IBD, got a PPO(Pre Placement Offer), and is now joining Matrix Partners, one of the major global VC funds. The answer is based on his experience and opinion.  The statement that IIMC is better than IIMA in finance, is just a myth that has gained popularity. A lot of top IBD ( Barclays, MS, HSBC), VC (Matrix, IDG, Kalari), and PE (AION) roles are offered exclusively to students at IIM A and not IIM C. Being said that, IIM C must have some exclusive job roles to offer too without a doubt. Now, coming to the reason why more IIM A students go to the consulting domain than to finance. Following are the reasons for the same: It is not because of unsubstantial finance focus but the fact that consulting companies like to hire in bulk, from the institute.  Moreover, the placement process at IIM A is a lot more flexible and student-friendly than almost every other campus in the country.  Here, you can actually have an IBD PPO and still sit for placements here, thus availing further opportunities to make a career choice more suitable for you. Hence, if you are confident to secure a place in the top 15% of the class, you should definitely join IIM A.Read more

Fee Structure And Facilities :

It is obvious that the fee structure of MBA is expensive. But the finance assistance which we receive from the banks is really good. So there is no need to worry about the availability of money. The fee payment modes include DD, Online transfer. Mostly the bank's from which we have availed the loan takes care of the process. We need to pay the mess fee every month to the college.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The curriculum is designed very genuinely. All the courses in the first 2 semesters are related to the basic understanding of the Business Ecosystem. Basics of Marketing, Finance, Organisational Behavior, Political History of India are covered initially. Later in the second year, we can choose our own subjects and can Major in any division.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

For pursuing the MBA course from this college, I paid Rs 20 lakhs/- in total. This covered my induction fee, tuition fee, examination fee, a caution fee, etc. Apart from this the college also provides quality education with good infrastructure.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The MBA course was easy but not simple. The curriculum was pretty thorough, although the syllabus was complex with the help of supportive professors and seniors helped us with notes. We were occupied with assignments and presentations. Our curriculum consisted of a mixture of some credit courses and non-credit courses.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

I paid around 22 Lacs for my one year program. Being a premium institute, they charge a premium fee for their program. Though the fees were high, the education quality and efficiency of the course were good enough to invest this much.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course structure for the MBA program was well structured and segmented effectively to deliver full value within a one-year duration. During the one-year course duration, we studied all the course subjects in brief. This additional knowledge, coupled with the experience I already had in the corporate, did wonders for my career.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Highly feasible for vlm students - 12L course & some additional 2 to 3 lakhs expense is total you will spend. Other b-school fees ranges from 24L to 35L. RoI is better in this course. 2 iits & Japan tour are included in this expense.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Course is very hectic. 2 years of studies is squeezed into some 4 months of studies. This is for experienced professional, 4.5 years or more. There are no electives yet but it will be introduced in future. You have to struggle more in studies.
