Candidates are selected based on their eligibility criteria and document verification.
How to apply for Calcutta University B.A?
- Download the application form from the official website on https://www.caluniv.ac.in/.
- Click on B.A Application form.
- Download and fill in all the necessary details, this includes both personal and academic details.
- Finally, send the filled in application form along with the necessary documents.
Documents to be sent along with the application form are:
- Bank Challan or online payment receipt
- Original School leaving Certificate from the Principal / Head of the School / last attended.
- Fitness Medical certificate
- Self-attested copies of 10th and 12th mark sheets.
- Self-attested copy of the Birth certificate
- Caste certificate (if applicable).
- Domicile Certificate.
- Two copies of passport size color photographs
- Self-attested photocopy of aadhar card

Calcutta University B.A Course Details
- The B.A course at Calcutta University consists of 6 semesters (3 years)
- In B.A. Honors program a student shall have to study 14 Core courses of the Honours Subject as specified for each of the 6 semesters.
- In B.A. general program a student shall have to study 4 Core Courses of which 2 subjects can be chosen
- The dissertation project is a course to attain knowledge about a real-life situation. Such a project will carry 6 credits.
- The B.A program will consist of the Skill Enhancement Program and the Ability Enhancement Compulsory Program. The Skill Enhancement Program is designed to increase the students’ competencies and value-based knowledge. The Ability Enhancement Compulsory Program is compulsory and leads to knowledge enhancement.
- For the B. A course the total theory course is 26 and the total credit is 96. The total practical course is 22 and the credit score is 44.
- Each semester will consist of at least 15-18 weeks of academic work.
The total duration of the B.A course is 3 years which is divided into 6 semesters. The maximum time to complete the course is 5 years. If the candidate is not able to clear the exams in 5 years, then the enrollment will be canceled.
Course Evaluation
The Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) follows a 10 point grading system. The grades will be awarded as follows:

Semester Grade Point Average- This is the weighted average of the numerical value of all the papers in one given semester.
Cumulative Grade Point Average- This is the weighted average of all the 6 Semester Grade Point Average.
Attendance Requirement
A student should have a minimum of 75% of attendance to be eligible for the exams. If a student has at least 60% attendance, they are eligible for the exams provided they pay the prescribed fee. A student who has below 60% attendance will not be allowed to take the examinations and will have to pursue the same admission in the next year.

Examination Regulation
- The semester-end examinations for semester 1, semester 3, and semester 5 are held in December - January. The semester-end examination for semester 2, semester 4, and semester 6 will be held in June- July.
- The semester-end examination will amount to 80% of the total marks. The internal assessment marks will be for 20% of the marks.
- Marks will also be awarded to students based on their class attendance. For attending 60% or above classes, but less than 75% classes 6 marks will be awarded. Those who attend more than 75% but less than 90% of classes will be given 8 marks. Those students who attend 90% or more classes will be given 10 marks.
