Ques. Which is a better college between Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics and St. Xaviers college, Kolkata for Commerce?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 06 Aug 21

Ans. If you want to pursue B.Com, then you can choose St. Xavier's College, Kolkata over Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics. I have friends from both institutes and based on the things I heard from them, I will say St. Xavier's College, Kolkata is the better option.  The only major downside my friend recollects is the regulation of 2 shifts for B.Com students. The first one is in the morning, and the other in the late evening.  The morning shift is conducted only for the boys. The class begins at around 6 A.M., which can be a problem for some people. The discipline followed, however, can help you further in life.  The evening classes, however, are typically co-educational. But, the number of girls is way more than the number of boys in the class. The ratio is highly skewed in favor of the girls. Hope this helps answer your query.Read more

Ques. Which is better college between St.Xaviers Kolkata (Lawrence campus) and Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics for CA along with B.Com?

● Top Answer By Janvi Bhambri on 05 Aug 21

Ans. Both the colleges are different from each other in terms of rules and the curriculum. Having to know some people in both of these colleges, here are some comparative points you can refer to before making a decision. If you are an early riser, Narsee Monjee is the best as the classes start in the early morning. On the other hand, classes at St. Xaviers Kolkata are usually conducted in the evening from 4 pm to 8 pm.  Choosing between the two also depends on your perspective whether you want to be in your comfort or you want to see a change in your schedule. CA is not an easy subject. One of my friends has cleared IPCC and it will require a lot of dedication and hard work.  Coupled with B.Com it becomes more challenging. But if you are well prepared, it will not be a problem. The quality of education and brand name is at par for both the colleges, however, if you are an average student then Narsee Monjee is a better choice.  This is because you can attend the classes in the morning itself and finish by noon so that you can join coaching in the evening.  Both the colleges demand a minimum of 75% attendance however, in recent years Narsee Monjee has been allowing students with at least 50% attendance. So again the decision depends on your dedication towards CA. Being in a morning college also makes you disciplined. You will be able to work on a routine. Overall, CA is one of the prestigious career perspectives in India and there is a huge scope for CA graduates. Thus, you must choose the college wisely. Both of these colleges stand apart from each other In terms of schedule and even location. Know your determination towards your goal and you can easily make a choice.Read more

Ques. Which one is better: St. Xavier's in Kolkata's economics department or Presidency University in Kolkata's economics department?

● Top Answer By Komal Chawla on 29 Jul 21

Ans. It depends on you and what your career goal is. If jobs are what you aspire to, then St. Xavier’s will be a good choice. In case you are looking for legacy, reputation, and departmental history, and you want to boast of some old-school ultra-elitism across Kolkata, Presidency is the place to be. Presidency University is going under lots of variations when it comes to curriculum and the teaching methodology. The addition of Presidency Kolkata Economics in your CV in India is an unparalleled one. As the Presidency University is going under transition for good. But, Xavier’s economics department still has an edge over the Presidency's department in terms of faculty and syllabus. Categories Presidency University St. Xavier’s Kolkata Total Course Fee 6150 rupees 2.91 Lakhs Course Duration 3 years 3 years Highest CTC 13 LPA 17.5 LPA Average CTC 7-8 LPA 6 LPA Both colleges have an equal legacy and are very popular all over the country. If you get admission in any of these institutions, you should just go for it. Be it placements or higher studies, you will have opportunities for both.Read more

Ques. What is the difference between St. Xavier's University and St. Xavier's College, Kolkata? Which one should I opt for a B.Com (Hons.)?

● Top Answer By Sandip Pal on 14 Jun 21

Ans. St. Xavier’s University and St. Xavier’s College are two different institutes, having no relation in between, other than being managed by Jesuits. The points below give some brief information about both the institutes to distinguish among them. St. Xavier’s College situated in Park Street, Kolkata is an autonomous college, which runs under Calcutta University. While, St. Xavier’s University is a separate university, which runs entirely on its own. It sets its own papers, conducts its own exams, and also awards the degree by itself. St. Xavier’s College has its own curriculum, sets its own papers, and even conducts its own exams. Only the final degree is awarded to students by the Calcutta University. It has an excellent reputation for B.Com (Hons). It is considered one of the best colleges of commerce in the country. Fees for St. Xavier’s College are nominal compared to the university because it is subsidized by the government. It is one of the oldest institutes in the country. St. Xavier’s College is located in the heart of the city and so, it is easy to commute to and from various places in the city. The faculty is of St. Xavier’s College is very good, if not considered excellent. Preferably, the college may come under the university in the future, as both of them are managed by the same governing body. Therefore, considering all the above factors, St. Xavier’s College, Park Street is definitely the better option among the two.Read more

Sweta kundu I want to take admission in this college for B.com hons. So'what are the basic need and what are the procedure??

Hi Sweta, the college does not offers Hons course. It only offers general B.Com course for which candidate must have scored at least 60% in intermediate to be eligible. However, admission will be based on marks scored in class 12th and in an interview conducted by the college.
