Prof. (Dr) Purvang Dalal is the Head, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, faculty of technology, Dharmsinh Desai University (DDU), Nadiad. During his 20 years of tenure at DDU, he has held several administrative portfolios. He is a founding member of IEEE students chapter at DDU. He has been granted a patent by the Indian Patent Office, which is an outcome of his Doctoral research. He has presented several research papers in national and international conferences and published in journals as well. He has actively participated in, as a resource person, and conducted several Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) in the core fields of Electronics. He has guided more than 20 M. Tech. dissertations. He is a member of Research Progress Committees for Ph.D. at various universities.

Electronics is one of the largest growing sectors of the world and penetrated in almost all fields of Engineering. Following are the career options available after completing B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication (EC).

  • Start a career by entering in the State or Central government departments like Defence, Railways, All India Radio, Airport Authority of India, Post and Telegraph, etc.
  • Enter public sector firms like BSNL, ONGC, SAIL, MTNL, Bharat Electronics Limited, Bharat Electricals Limited, ISRO, IOC, etc.

In your opinion, how has the pandemic changed the face of education in India?

The education has become more accessible, in view of efforts put up for creating content and delivery systems. Approaches like integrated learning and experiential learning, with greater implementation of technology have changed the paradigm. This has also changed the evaluation strategy to improve overall learning outcome. The online assessment with integration of technology also provided individual learners with immediate feedback on their work for further improvement. 


Any suggestions you would like to give to the aspiring students?

“Polish your soft skills, practice good reading and build a moral character for a successful life” 

  • Keep yourself technically updated and develop passion for it.
  • Revise your fundamentals.
  • Do some small projects (preferably live projects) in small scale companies and colleges. 
  • If you are planning MS/ M.Tech then you may opt for a research project. 
  • If you wish to be an electronics engineer, play with electronics, learn embedded, android apps, make projects around the Internet of Things, buy embedded kits.
