What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector? 

“Contributing to the education sector with the capabilities I possess”

My ardent belief in knowledge leadership for a sustainable and inclusive world is the prime reason for my association with the education sector. I believe higher education underpins scientific and technological progress, contributes to cultural life,and educates the highly qualified people the national economy depends upon. My quest for building partnerships, with government and industry at home and abroad for academic and professional advancement kept me connected with higher education.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style? 

“Believing in strategic leadership”

A university is primarily a community of educationists and students who work together with the goal of learning and expanding the horizons of human knowledge through innovation and research. The University plays a major role in the social, cultural, and economic life of the region and nation at large. The university’s opportunities and challenges in an age of uncertainty can be addressed by strategic leadership involving a bottom-up approach and holistic (360 degrees) vision. In my opinion, to build sustainable and impactful academic institutions the leadership needs to look beyond the current landscape, question assumptions, and think critically and analytically. 


How do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your university? 

“Revising the curriculum and the plans for the best results”

The University offers Beginners and Certificate Courses in foreign languages such as French and German. Besides imparting quality education, the teaching departments are actively involved in Research and Development activities. University’s more than 415 research scholars registered in 15 disciplines including one of Haryana's largest Ph.D. cohorts, celebrating a decade of success. The University offers significant support to doctoral research students through a broad range of scholarships and research travel awards, dedicated office spaces, skills training, and professional development opportunities. These initiatives have resulted in the best outcomes and helped us market the university.

In your experience, what can an inbound student gain from studying here at your College? 

“Acquisition of knowledge for surviving beyond school or college life”

Conventionally, Indian education system is said to be deep rooted in theoretical learning while as foreign education system is inclined towards practical learning. Nevertheless, the present day education system in India has come a long way and moved towards blended learning involving theoretical and praxis based learning. Our university has a positive experience of inbound students from Germany in transnational studios in architecture and from Malaysia in biotechnology programs. Besides, there have been several occasions when visiting foreign professors from the USA, Russia, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, and other countries have been involved in academics. University successfully conducted two GIAN programmes of MHRD, Govt. of India inviting faculty from UK and USA. It provides an opportunity for fusion of the best of the education systems of both worlds.

How does the curriculum of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology ensure the best practice of industry? 

“Letting the students explore the diversity of education”

The education in DCR University of Science & Technology, Murthal is student centric/learner-centric. The University is imparting quality education through outcome and value based education systems. The university witnessed manifold increase in the standards of teaching, learning and research through incorporating MOOC courses, chiefly NPTEL and SWAYAM in routine classroom teaching. When used cleverly, we know that technology can enhance the on-campus experience. We will be also deploying our online courses to benefit the campus community.


Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds? 

“Delivering the best of the academic world irrespective of the background”

DCR University of Science & Technology, Murthal adopted an inclusive and sustainable student strategy and welcomes students across all socio- economic strata of the society. A mix of genders, cultures, disciplines, pedagogies, learning contexts and student cohorts is critical to the development of creative graduates who become responsible global citizens. Access to, and effective delivery of, a high-caliber student experience relies on recognising the diverse requirements across different areas. 


What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the university and the students are? 

“Focus on development and application of new knowledge and collaboration”

Since my University is an affiliating one, the University plays a major role in the educational, cultural and economic life of the region and nation at large. As the principal academic and executive officer, the Vice Chancellor of a university has a vital role to play. I would like to encourage research and innovation in a range of disciplines encompassing contemporary needs of the State of Haryana in the context of globalization. Thus set the education system as a major driver in the process of the development of Haryana and Nation at large.


What do you think should be the University’s top priority over the next 10 years? 

“Strengthen the engagement with the industry for increased employment”

My major duty is to bring more resources and attract more talent for the university. We want to grow our scale and research quality. We are going to attract more top-tier professors who can produce first-class research results and/or advance technology transfer to industry. I look forward to the day when industrial or business sectors will turn to DCRUST Murthal for solutions whenever they encounter technical and strategic challenges. The University’s outstanding alumni include Fulbright scholars, and leaders in government, science, public service and the arts. This year’s civil service top rank holder was our alumnus. The University celebrates its alumni as its greatest assets. Their achievements make the University great and, in return, we work hard to strengthen our reputation.


What would you like people to know about your University they may not know? 

“Occupying prominent places in the most eminent organizations”

University’s mission is to achieve excellence in education and research in main and related areas of Applied Science, Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Management and Healthcare.The university implemented AICTE’s choice based credit system (CBCS) in 2018 across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. A few other achievements of the University are:

  • Centre of Excellence in Energy & Environmental Studies (CEEES)
  • Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy Test Centre funded by DST of Haryana and MNRE of Govt. of India
  • AICTE center for Quality Improvement Program in Haryana with 20 PhD positions across ten disciplines
  • AICTE training & Learning Academy (ATAL) on 11th September 2019 with a grant of 30 crores in phase I and 20 crores in phase II.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students? 

“Take pride in the legacy and carry it in the realm of global community” 

India is known for the rich heritage of ancient and eternal knowledge. The pursuit of knowledge (Jnan), wisdom (Pragyaa), and truth (Satya) was always considered in Indian thought and philosophy as the highest human goal. India has a young population and consequently, the last decade has also seen a huge increase in the demand for quality higher education especially in the 21st century State of Haryana. I wish to reiterate message of great Indian sage Swami Vivekanand for youth of India 

“Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.”

What are some plans that you’re currently (or will be) designing for your University’s international affairs and/or students? 

“Explore the use of modern cognitive science tools in education and learning”

The global education development agenda reflected in the Goal 4 (SDG4) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by India in 2015 - seeks to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” by 2030. This entailed a fundamental shift in the aims of the National Education policy of India from that of socialist thrust of National Education Policy 1986 to universalization of National Education Policy 2020. National Education Policy 2020 envisions an India-centric education system that contributes directly to transforming our nation sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society by providing high-quality education to all. My thrust will be on internationalization of the University. A special initiative may be launched to attract high calibre faculty from around the world on non- permanent teaching assignments. Indian researchers must also be able to gain access to the large global Research and Development (R&D) infrastructure and work in collaboration with others to develop necessary indigenous capabilities. I also envisage creating a world class teaching-learning environment to promote nourishing latent talent, reinforcing self-confidence and building an attitude of positive thinking.
