Dr. Anil Pethe is working as a Principal in the Pharmacy department at Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences, Wardha, Maharashtra. He has 19 years of teaching and research experience. His research areas are Novel Drug Delivery System, Natural Polymers, Nanocrystalline Cellulose and Biowaste Conversion. He has published 36 International and 6 National papers. He has written 2 books and has a total of 8 patents in his name out of which 3 are published and 5 are filed. He has also given 50 Presentations, 08 on the International level and 42 on the National level. He has worked on 2 Government-funded projects. He has also guided 75 M. Pharm students for their research projects and one candidate is registered under his supervision for PhD.

What keeps you connected with the education sector and how has your experience been so far?

“Inspiration to improve youth’s life by educating them”

I wanted to become a teacher to make a positive difference in the future of the young generation. This way I can pay back and at the same time can fulfill my desire of enhancing the existing education system. It has been a wonderful journey till date and as a principal of this college I have full freedom to inculcate the best quality practices to be incorporated which will fulfill the aspirations of learners. 


What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“To provide best guidance and opportunities to students”

Being the head of the institution, my roles and responsibilities towards the students are as follows.

  • Overall supervision of teaching programs and to ensure that students are receiving the best quality education and acquiring skill-sets as required by industry.
  • To provide the platform for the leadership development of the students.
  • Supervision of students’ welfare, health and security services. 
  • Guidance and counselling of students.
  • Supervision of living conditions of students in hostels.

What extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of the students?

“Various cultural-academic activities and training are arranged for them”

College is providing many opportunities for the students to enhance their skills by participation in various extracurricular activities which are being conducted in college such as Annual cultural day, sports day, Ganpati festival, Navratri festival, etc. All these activities are helping the student to build their personality. Students are exposed to real-world challenges through summer internship programs at hospitals, industry or on-field training jobs.


How does the curriculum of DMIMS help to prepare students for the future?

“Curriculum is supplemented by various certification courses”

The curriculum is designed in such a way that the students can be trained in practical skills. Other than the regular academics, students are encouraged to complete the certificate courses in emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, virtual reality, pharmacovigilance, blockchain technology, 3D printing, nanorobotics from Coursera and other online platforms.

How do you introduce practical and industry-oriented approaches towards subjects?

“Through sessions by industry professional and recruitment of highly qualified faculties”

To bring in a practical approach towards subjects and to make it industry-oriented the various initiatives have been implemented such as recruitment of faculty having industry experience, weekly guest lecture by industry experts to connect the students with the recent happening in the pharma world, involvement of industry experts in curriculum designing, regular industry visits, summer internship, etc.


What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the students?

“We have introduced skill development programs in this concern”

Soft skills development, practical skill development, leadership development of the students is the main focus area apart from curriculum.

The college is located in central India and well-known for its strong academic culture, College is having excellent blend of experienced and young faculty, well established pre-clinical research facility, a pilot plant for the development of various dosage forms, sophisticated analytical instruments, a library with a huge collection of pharmacy and other books, well developed herbal garden. The college has adopted the learner-centric approach to train the students to be ready for professional challenges.

Without a second thought, I am delighted to mention that our strength is our team of young, enthusiastic and hardworking faculty and staff which allows us to achieve our goals by creating various opportunities to enhance the learning practical skills of students. 


What are some of the biggest challenges facing the country in terms of higher education?

“Availability of right opportunities at right time”

One of the biggest challenges for higher education in India are the level of knowledge of the students while entering their graduate program is poor. Most of the children of primary and secondary school complete their schooling without undergoing adequate training. So, when they go for higher education, they face a lot of difficulties.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Be patient but limitless in learning”

The youths are the strength of society. Society identifies youth as a person who has agility, creativity, zeal, vigor and a tendency to change the world. The youth must be kind, fearless, humble, and decisive and goal-oriented. This is the right age to select your career goal and it must be in the right direction.
