Dr. K. Saravanan is an assistant professor and HOD of the Anna University Of Technology, Tirunelveli. He did BE, ME, and Ph.D. in cloud computing. He is a member of ISTE, ACM, ISCA, IEI. Moreover, he authored several publications in national and international journals. He received an outstanding reviewer certificate from Elsevier in 2016.

What are the primary factors that connect you with the education sector?

“Teaching connects me with youth”

One of my passions is teaching. I got an opportunity to work as an Associate Engineer in Cognizant technology solutions. But, I chose my career towards education and started work at Anna University as a teacher. I realized that teaching keeps me connected with youth. A decision made by me is to pursue a career in the education sector. It helps me to complete a Ph.D. from ANNA University. 


How do you describe your teaching style?

“Focus on the overall development of students”

My teaching style is practical. I believe that a person’s skills matter the most. One of my focuses is on the overall development and practical knowledge of pupils. It is essential to prepare for real-world problems. I encourage candidates to do project work with private institutions and governments. Our campus also did a project related to police station requirements. This aids the students to link with society. 


What policies does Anna University Of Technology aid to promote equality?

“Provide equal opportunity to students”

Our campus considers all students in an equal manner. There is no discrimination in admissions. Each student gets a fair chance through this process. Anna University is a government college with a good image and affordable price. Candidates get quality education from the campus. The strict policies that exist inside the campus are related to ragging. 


What is the top priority of campus for the next 10 years?

“Plan to get NAAC accreditation and improve research” 

Our campus is approved by AICTE. We plan to get NAAC accreditation in the upcoming years. The faculties provide quality education to pupils. Another priority is to improve infrastructure, labs, and research facilities. The primary aim is to ensure these facilities for the benefit of students.

How does the Anna University Of Technology make students ready for the industry?

“Placement cells train students for achieving their career”

We focus on the practical skills of students through training by the placement cell. These programs are conducted in collaboration with CUIC, Anna University, Chennai. The campus placements give a lot of opportunities to every pupil. We help the students who want to pursue higher education. Every student in the college is motivated and encouraged to pursue their careers. 


What challenges do you face to uplift the education of the Anna University Of Technology?

“To implement online classes during the pandemic”

The mind and psychology of students pose a bit of a challenge. Pandemic causes division among students in a classroom session. Some of them choose the online class and others adopt offline. Their mindset changes according to their preferred mode of education. We also update with the latest curriculum, research, and industry trends. It led to possibly guiding students. 


How did you train faculty to deliver a program for students?

“Keep updated with industry trends and carry research”

The computer Science and Engineering department consists of twelve faculties. They are well qualified and highly trained. We update the latest industry trends to deliver quality education. Our research is progressing in the areas like Internet of Things, Data Analytics, Image processing, Data Mining, Wireless Networks, and Cloud Computing. The recent faculty training program is Theory of Computation and Distributed Systems. They also take part in Consultancy / Sponsored projects.

What advice do you give for students? 

“Provide placement opportunities for students”

I suggest pupils do various internships, online certification programs, and workshops related to their field of interest. Data scientists, programmers, and full-stack developers are the options for computer science students. I always advise candidates to attend placements to gain some experience. The conferences and research papers help them to pursue higher studies. It helps them to build a good profile and stand apart from the crowd.
