Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) is a program aimed at students who have passed out of class XII/Higher Secondary or equivalent from schools across India.
IPM is a 5-year program launched in 2011 by IIM Indore. The program has been accredited by the Association of MBAs, London.
Despite its high accreditation, it has some major drawbacks that definitely need to be considered before joining
Fees
The IPM is the most expensive graduation course in all of India. The fees for the first 3 years alone are INR 1500000. If you consider the additional cost and the total fees the approximate fee is INR 3500000.
Future Scope
The program offers a very limited scope. This is because even if you decide to leave after 3 years, you will want to pursue Management itself. But leaving after spending so much on graduation is not easy. Also, people usually leave if they get a call from a better IIM. In that case, why did you even pursue graduation at such a high cost?
Lack of Academic Diversity
Most students who come to IIM for MBAs has diverse background. Some are engineers while some are in Law. But an IPM student has been in the same institution for 5 years pursuing the same course. So they lack the much-coveted academic diversity by the recruiters.
No Specialization
While most MBA students have a specialization in graduation, IPM students have no specialization at all. They have been studying Management right after 12.
Placements
The placement scenario of IPM students is average. The IPM students and freshers whereas the PGP students have work experience. Both batches are put on an equal scale during placements. Obviously, top companies prefer experienced students over freshers.
A general PGP student is someone around 22-24 years of age, with an Undergraduate degree in Core engineering stream and work experience of 6-22 months in IT.
Whereas a typical IPM student would be someone of age 20-22 with an Undergraduate degree from IGNOU and no work experience at all.
Some general opinions regarding PGP students are as follows
Not all IPM students are carefree and uninterested in their goals. There are some exceptionally good IPM students who are even better than PGP students from top engineering schools.
Moving on to the next part of your question, if IPM is really worth it, I would say no. Personally, I don’t think one should invest so much money in a course that has no certainty. The newly established course is yet to instill trust in the industry. The recruiters are not yet ready to undertake the risks of recruiting an IPM student so they face terrible placement demerits. But the final decision is yours to make.
My cousin faced a similar dilemma. Initially, she was stuck and could not decide which college to go to. Ultimately she made a decision after analyzing the pros and cons of both institutions. She told me that one has to be extremely sure about what one wants to pursue in order to make this decision.
You should go for any of both the IIMs if
You may go for Christ University if
One major advantage of going for IPM from any IIM is that they all offer an exit option after 3 years, so if you give CAT and you are unable to get enough score to get shortlisted by any IIM, then you are on the safer side. This is because you will have an MBA degree and that too from one of the most reputed B schools in the nation. Whereas this may not be possible if you go for BBA.
People might be concerned that both these IIMs are comparatively new. But depending on the predictions these are bound to flourish in the years to come.
The final decision is based on your own convenience and interests.
The sources and preparation strategies that should be followed for cracking DU JAT BMS are mentioned below:
Quantitative Ability:
NCERT XI-XII: This is the most important source you must thoroughly review in order to have a good chance of receiving SSCBS. Modern math accounts for 70% of the total questions asked in this section, which covers topics from classes XI-XII. Complex numbers, probability, P&C, matrices, differentiation, and arithmetic progressions are the most important topics.
Objective Math textbook: Basic mathematics accounts for 30% of the quant section and includes topics such as time, speed, distance, averages, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
Brush up on your Calculation: Being fast is the simplest way to get ahead of the competition. Make sure you understand squares up to 30, cubes up to 20, and can quickly add and multiply two and three-digit numbers. This would give you a competitive advantage.
General/ Business Awareness:
Newspaper: Make it a habit to read the newspaper for at least an hour every day. Reading the whole thing is not necessary. Sports, economics, world news, and editorials are the most important sections.
App Jagran Josh: It is the best online resource for improving your general knowledge and growing as a person in general. It publishes weekly current events and quizzes based on them, which aids in thorough preparation. You can also read monthly current affairs to get a detailed overview of the month. Make sure you read up on current events at least 7 months before the exam date.
Google searches: The best thing to get ahead of others was to conduct specific Google searches. Make separate lists and thoroughly revise the important topics that appear frequently in JAT (national parks, geographical features, awards and honors, taglines).
Pearson publication: Static GK is becoming increasingly important for acing the exam, so it is necessary to prepare for this section. You could use any static GK book. The Pearson book, on the other hand, is excellent.
Verbal Ability:
Norman Lewis's Word Power: It is the best book for acknowledging your language skills even at the CAT level. The first half of the book based on word roots is less significant (very crucial in general) at the JAT level, and the second half of the book with a list of difficult words is the most essential component. Figure out how to learn those odd 800 words, and you'll be able to find keywords from the list.
Bakshi, SP English objective: It is an excellent resource for preparing homonyms, antonyms, and synonyms. Also the best book for practicing one-word substitutions and idioms, which are two of the most important topics for JAT.
Logical Reasoning:
It is the simplest topic to prepare for because the level of LR at JAT is beginner, and you should attempt all 25 questions in this section. To adequately prepare for all adversaries, you should solve CAT beginner-level LR questions.
These resources will assist you in properly preparing for the exam. Though it is only one component, your exam taking strategy will have a significant impact on your score.
