What is the placement scenario for the Heritage Institute of Technology?

KD
Khushi Dey Posted On : September 23rd, 2021
B.Tech. Chemical Engineering,Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata (2016)

Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) Kolkata, affiliated with MAUKAT, is ranked 154th in the NIRF Ranking 2020 for engineering colleges in India. According to some of my friends studying there, it is a really good institute.

  • The college offers decent placements to students depending on their grade points.
  • The students hit above the 8.5-grade points, every company in the campus placement will hire them.
  • The top recruiters include TCS, IBM, Cognizant, Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, etc.
  • Most of the recruiters are giant software companies. So, there are fewer core recruiters for other branches.
  • The core Chemical Engineering companies include Linde India Limited, Phillips Carbon Black, Berger Paints, VA Tech Wabag, Haldia Petrochemicals, Wacker, TATA Chemicals, Rene Leather, Star Cements, Himadri Chemicals, etc.
  • HPL, PCBL, Berger paint generally offer packages of about 4.5-6 LPA.
  • Many Heritage graduates are working in PSUs like IOCL, HPCL, BPCL, NFL, SAIL and other Government organisations like BARC, DRDO etc.

According to the past statistics of the institute, the following are the placement percentage of each branch.

Branches Placement Percentage
Computer Science & Engineering 95%
Electronics & Communication Engineering 95%
Mechanical Engineering 75%
Biotechnology 70%
Civil Engineering 66%
Chemical Engineering 60%
Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering 60%

As per the above, ECE and CSE are the best branches in terms of placements. But you can opt for the department which interests you, because overall the placements of Heritage Institute of Technology is really good.

Are class notes enough to secure at least a 9 GPA at Heritage Institute of Technology in the 1st year of ECE?

B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata (2021)

Yes, they are enough but only if you do not miss a single class, and are very serious about every assignment and internal mark.

Your professors and seniors would definitely suggest you the reference books and you should their advice. Everything is not about marks. You should have surplus knowledge about your subjects which brings completeness into the course.

Due to time limitations, everything cannot be taught in the class. Also, engineering is beyond your semester syllabus.

I left aerospace engineering at IIEST and joined Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata with Electronics and communication engineering a year later. Was it the right decision?

Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata

Well, I cannot say whether the decision you took is right or wrong because if you have taken the decision you have given certain thought and time into it.

Very few have the guts to leave a premier institute like IIEST and join Heritage. If you changed institute because you wanted to change your branch there but you couldn’t, then you made the right choice.

If you’re interested in higher studies after B.Tech then Heritage does offer good opportunities. ECE has huge scopes. Coming to Heritage, ECE faculty and labs are very good, the teachers will guide you in the best possible way to help you pursue your dreams. One of my friends left civil at NIT, Durgapur for ECE here. Heritage has a decent placement record. According to the recent placement highlights the average CTC offered is 4 LPA.

If you’re interested in higher studies, then choosing the branch you are passionate about is always a better option than choosing a good institute.

What are the ECE department professors like at the Heritage Institute of Technology?

SD
Sandip Dasgupta Posted On : September 17th, 2021
Bachelor of Technology Electronics and Communication Engineering ,Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata

One of my friends is an alumnus of the ECE department at Heritage Institute of Technology. Here is what he had to say about the faculties of the department.

Dr. Prabir Banerjee, Dr. Anindya Sen, Dr. Sambhu Nath Biswas, Dr. Sayantan Dhar, Dr. Shounak Dasgupta, Dr. Srabanti Pandit, Dr. Kasturi Mukherjee, Dr. Mousiki Kar, and Dr. Soumyo Chatterjee are all excellent mentors if you wish to go into the field of researching.

Not everyone who excels in research also excels in teaching, but some do, and some are absolutely exceptional.

Professors will be intra-departmental, whether you are a student enrolled in an undergraduate or a postgraduate program. Your Professors will be extremely important throughout the fourth year of your undergraduate program at Heritage.

Make sure you get connected with someone who can assist you in completing your Projects. The Final Year Project will be one of the most crucial tasks for an MS or MBA after your undergraduate education, or for an off-campus job application. Choosing prudently and, most importantly, having a doctorate to assist you will go a long way.

What should I prefer Heritage Institute of Technology or VIT?

SM
Subhashree Mukherjee Posted On : September 22nd, 2021
CSE at HITK

Honestly, this is not even a comparison. VIT (any campus) is way better than Heritage Institute of Technology. Actually, Heritage Institute of Technology is not even the best college in the Kolkata region. It is the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM).

Heritage Institute of Technology is obviously cheaper than VIT to study and also closer to your home if you are from the eastern region of India. You will get a job after graduating with a starting salary of around INR 3.5 lakhs per annum. If you have financial constraints and you are ok with this kind of starting salary then Heritage Institute of Technology will not disappoint you.

However, if you are well enough to pay for the fee of VIT, then in no way you should even think of Heritage Institute of Technology. The environment you will get there are obviously the placements of VIT are way better than Heritage Institute of Technology to even consider them for comparison.

Which bus(es) should I take to reach Heritage Institute of Technology from Howrah station?

SD
Sriparna Dhar Posted On : September 27th, 2021
Studied at Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata

There are no direct buses running from Howrah station to Heritage Institute of Technology. You need to take a bus to Ruby then you can take a rickshaw to reach HIT.

  • Ac24 is the most practical option, to reach Ruby from Howrah. However, finding a seat on the bus is tough.
  • The cheapest option is S24. It costs 9 rupees from Howrah station to Ruby, but due to a large number of passengers, the bus is quite packed and inconvenient for college students.
  • If you prefer a more pleasant ride, take the E1 or AC1 or AC6 to Gariahat and then take another bus or vehicle to Ruby.
  • HIT provides bus services from Exide more. You may take a bus from Howrah station to Exide, where the bus will meet you and transport you to your college.
  • 107 and 107/1: These are some of the mini buses that go between Howrah station and Anandapur Ruby.

These are the ways by which you can reach HIT from Howrah.

Does any student of IEM regret taking admission in IEM instead of Heritage Institute of Technology or the other way round?

SD
Sayandeep Dutta Posted On : September 17th, 2021
B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering ,Institute of Engineering and Management (2020)

For the first two years of your college life, you may regret not joining IEM, in the last two years this will not matter much.

  • IEM is also quite strict. According to my friends at the institute, you are not allowed to use cell phones inside classrooms. If a student is absent for two consecutive days, then his/her parents (or guardians) are called for inquiry purposes. The same situation would arise if you do not secure good marks in your examinations.
  • According to my IEM friends, the teacher-student interaction is not as open and there is an unspoken barrier between them. HIT, on the other hand, has helpful teachers in these areas. If you have any questions, you can contact them at any moment, including over the phone. Teachers in HIT also assist you in developing your research interests. They will motivate you to study even for topics that are not included in the curriculum but are relevant to it.
  • IEM is unquestionably better than HIT when it comes to campus placements as per the records of the past few years. Many students get the opportunity to appear for the recruitment process of core companies. According to the recent placement highlights the highest CTC offered at HIT and IEM were 16 LPA and 72 LPA respectively.

However, whether you select CSE or IT, I recommend that you go for HIT because the placement percent is the same in both institutions for IT-related streams, but the faculty of CSE and IT at HIT will provide you with better support and encouragement.

To what extent do your internal marks affect your overall CGPA at Heritage Institute of Technology(after becoming an autonomous institute)?

AM
Ayan Mukherjee Posted On : September 24th, 2021
Studied Electronics and Communication Engineering at Heritage Institute of Technology,Kolkata (2019)

According to my friends from Heritage, 50% of your internal marks depend on your attendance. So, your attendance plays a significant role in your internal marks. Viva is conducted by the teachers as a part of the internal. Scoring good marks only in the end-semester examination will not help you in scoring a high GPA, you will have to score good marks in internal exams as well. If you have a good attendance record, you might get grace marks as well.

Since it is an autonomous institute, you will have to attend the classes. It does not matter whether you like the classes or not otherwise you will not get good internal marks. This is why there is a 60% mandatory attendance criterion.
