Master's in engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra

BITS Pilani is more famous and has better industry recognition. It offers a lot of academic freedom to students. It follows a zero attendance rule policy. Due to the strict selection process, the peer group of the institute is excellent. You will be sharing your lectures with some of the sharpest minds in the country. Owing to better industry connect, students get better internship opportunities from BITS Pilani.

I have a few friends at both institutes so I can shed some light on this. Here are some of the points that differentiate BIT Mesra and BITS Pilani.

Differences:

  • BITS Pilani holds a much higher ratio of IIT-JEE qualified students and has no reservations. So in Pilani, you can meet up with much brighter students.
  • In BITS Pilani you will find better management and student-friendly policies. To arrange a bonafide certificate from the college you just require to visit the official website. Whereas in Mesra, you need to go draft an application and be in a line outside the Dean's office during a particular time in the day.
  • In BITS Pilani you will get way better industry connections. In Mesra, even obtaining a recommendation from the college is a complicated task to say the most limited words.
  • BITS Pilani holds a state-of-the-art library along with dedicated study areas. You can get models of previous year's question papers for every subject and year. On the other hand in Mesra, you are not permitted to take your own textbooks into the library, nor there are any dedicated study areas, neither you will get access to previous year solved question papers, and even the library shuts completely at 7 PM or so.
  • At Mesra owing to its selection method and area, the student community is quite managed by a certain region. Rare states are likely to barely have any representation. BITS Pilani gives you much more of a metropolitan feel.
  • Be it a hostel mess or canteens the food quality is quite poor at Mesra. However, in BITS Pilani fares way better on this. In fact, a BITSian startup holds the contract for most of the meals and canteens in Pilani.
  • You can reach Mesra less than an hour away from Ranchi, and the college provides daily but jammed buses for connectivity. In Ranchi, you will get a decent option for a day trip for anything. Ranchi also posses an airport and is linked to Delhi/Kolkata. Whereas BITS Pilani to Jaipur/Delhi and back takes a much longer time.
  • Weather-wise both the colleges you will find to have extreme weather fluctuations. But it heavily rains in Ranchi.
  • Pilani is settled in a semi-arid area, whereas Mesra is nothing but a virtually thick green forest that has been partly cut down to create a campus.

So at last but not least I can suggest to you that Pilani is surely better on almost all counts.
