Which is better for finance, Lal Bahadur Shastri or Fore School of Management? Is it worth it to take admission in LBSIM?

SC
Shivangi Chaudhary Posted On : July 22nd, 2021
Studying B.Com from Zakir Hussain College, Delhi University (2019).

If you look at FORE’s prior placement statistics, you'll notice that even before they started this new PGDM in Financial Management, they were a good pick for the financial sector, finance businesses, and overall BFSI.

  • Until a few years ago, LBSIM was an excellent venue for PGDM Finance. However, some of the best faculty members have left LBSIM.
  • When compared to other institutes in its category, LBSIM offers cutting-edge infrastructure and possibly the best finance faculty.
  • It offers a tough curriculum, and recruiters come in with core finance profiles; on top of that, LBSIM has a higher return on investment.
  • FORE is a good school as well, but why pay more for similar opportunities.
Particulars LBSIM FORE
Fees 11.67 lakh 15.98 lakh
Top recruiters Asian Paints, Nestle, Hindustan, Bacardi, TATA Motors, Hero, Whirlpool, HDFC, etc Microsoft, Capgemini, Razorpay, HCL Technologies, LT Foods, Blackstone and Hindware, etc
Placement rate 97% 100%
Average salary package 10.6 LPA 9.2 LPA
Highest salary package 30 LPA 32 LPA

Just remember that it’s all about your career opportunities so think wisely and then make any decision.

Which one is better among JBIMS and FMS, Specifically for Finance/Consulting?

OP
Omkar Parab Posted On : February 20th, 2023
M.M.S Marketing & Sales, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (2018)

FMS Delhi is one of the oldest MBA colleges and attracts highly qualified individuals every year. Its rankings and placement statistics are living proof of its legacy and excellence. At no single aspect does JBIMS give an edge to FMS. Owing to its outstanding performance in delivering management talent every year, it attracts top firms for recruitment and the best candidates. The CAT cutoff gives an edge to the top IIMs and thereby causing great competition. The absence of a state/regional quota also ensures that students don’t have to compromise on quality and merit. Let’s discuss some more points where FMS gives an edge to JBIMS thereby proving its worth.

  • Location: FMS is located in the National Capital of India whereas JBIMS is located in the Finance Capital. Being situated in the National capital FMS has professors that are linked to the political sector of the country. This is beneficial for domains of Finance and Consulting.
  • Placements: Although many companies that visit JBIMS, visit FMS too, the number and quality of roles offered to vary. Also, JBIMS lacks offers from international companies like Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, and Royal Bank of Scotland that offer IB roles in FMS. After analyzing the placement reports you can see that no significant Corporate Finance Roles have been offered at JBIMS.
  • Consulting: Almost every firm that visits JBIMS, visits FMS too. But FMS enjoys additional offers from top firms like BCG and Avalon consulting offering strategic consulting roles. FMS also enjoys the participation of Cognizant Business Consulting, Infosys Management Consulting, and Capgemini.
  • General Management: The domain of General Management is better at FMS than JBIMS. This is because the big names in the sector like TAS, Airtel, and Mahindra do not visit the campus of JBIMS
  • Clubs and committees: There are many student-driven bodies at FMS, the” Finance Society, and the Consulting Club that offer assistance and additional skills and knowledge in the respective fields.
  • Finance Lab: FMS is the 3rd Business School in India that has established a Finance club with 12 Bloomberg terminals facilitating applied research in financial markets and equipping finance students with research insights, concepts, theories, and best practices in financial markets.

All these features combined make FMS one of the best schools and definitely a better choice than JBIMS.

Is finance placement good for fms delhi?

AS
Abhijeet Singh Posted On : December 30th, 2022
MBA from Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (Graduated 2019)

FMS is known largely for its Management and Consulting placements rather than Finance placements. Let’s have a look at the sector-wise placement statistics of FMS.

Domains

Campus Offers

Management and Consulting

76

E-Com/ IT/ Operations

61

Finance

30

S&M

25

From the above stats we can say that the highest placements were offered to the Management and Consulting domains. The Marketing placements accounted for 39%, Consulting and Management for 17%, IT/Ops for 28%, and Finance for 16%. Finance received almost half of what Management and Consulting placement offers. The top recruiters that came from the Finance sectors are as follows

  1. American Express
  2. HCL
  3. Axis Bank
  4. Bharti Enterprises
  5. ICICI Bank
  6. HSBC
  7. Crisil

So I don’t think FMS Delhi is good for Finance.

Which college to prefer? I am waitlisted in both IIM Udaipur as well as IIM Trichy. I want to opt for Finance. which one should I go for?

YV
Yashluv Virwani Posted On : January 25th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Calcutta

In order to research the opportunities that both of these colleges, IIM Udaipur as well as IIM Trichy have to offer in the field of finance, it is a good idea to try and get in touch with previous students who have studied finance at these colleges. You can ask them about their experiences and whether they believe that the college prepared them well for a career in finance. It is also a good idea to be specific about the particular career choice within finance that you are interested in, as this will help you to determine whether the college has a strong track record of placing students in those types of roles.

Additionally, online forums such as Pagalguy can be useful resources for gathering information and asking questions about the opportunities that are available at these colleges. It is important to be specific in your queries on these forums, as this will help you to get more targeted and helpful responses.

Why do people prefer IIM Calcutta over IIM Ahmedabad for finance-related jobs?

BJ
Bhawana Jain Posted On : December 21st, 2022
Studied at IIM Ahmedabad

The claim that IIM Calcutta is India's finance campus, is overstated. Yes, C has a slightly higher number of finance recruiters, but the majority of the top recruiters also attend IIM Ahmedabad and Bangalore. The difference is in tier 2 and 3 finance companies, which Ahmedabad makes up for with good FMCG and consulting roles.

In general, placement processes in Calcutta are disorganized when compared to Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and even FMS. Processes in Calcutta are woefully out of date, as evidenced by the recent dissent against place reps and the subsequent motion of no confidence.

It has been noticed that people only select IIM Calcutta over IIM Ahmedabad if they are having problems with location and not because they believe Calcutta to be superior to Ahmedabad.

How is FMS, Delhi for Finance specialization?

HK
Himanshu Khurana Posted On : December 30th, 2022
Studied at Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (Graduated 2021)

FMS Delhi is largely called the Marketing Campus of India owing to its excellent Marketing specialization. But this does not mean that its Finance department is poorly specialized. FMS provides great opportunities to its Finance students as well.

Faculty

The finance faculty conducts such amazing classes that even non-finance students are able to grasp the concepts easily. The pedagogy includes class discussions and case studies.

Finance Society of FMS Delhi: The Finance Society of FMS Delhi or FinSoc is an active body available 24/7 to clear all your doubts, aid you in preparing for placements, and exams and even help you perform in Corporate Competitions.

Alpha Investment and Research Club: This cell aims at converting your theoretical knowledge into practical lessons. This practical approach is possible through quality research, and knowledgeable sessions that help in understanding the nuances of investing and trading.

Placements

This year the finance domain received 30 placement offers and 11 pre-placement offers. The roles offered included Front End Investment Banking, Corporate Finance, Wealth Management, etc.

The major recruiters that came from the finance sector included Bharti Enterprises, ICICI Bank, HCL, HSBC, Axis Bank, and Crisil.

So FMS is not just a marketing campus but also specializes in Finance.

Which is better to join for finance considering the profiles offered, ROI and placements -NMIMS, DFS DU, SIBM, or NEW IIMS?

JV
Jatin Vamsi Posted On : September 9th, 2022

Considering the job profiles offered, ROI, and placements, DFS DU will be a better option for Finance. It is a well-known name in the Finance industry. DFS has been providing proficient and dedicated Finance professionals to the industry for the last three decades.

It is not a residential program. You will get ample time to take part in extracurricular and other activities. DFS has many clubs and committees that you can take part in.

Major recruiters from the finance sector such as Arcesium and DE Shaw take part in the campus placements. According to the recent highlights of DFS Delhi placements, the highest CTC offered for Finance job roles is around INR 26 LPA.

What is the best preparation strategy for the JBIMS MSc finance interview?

AM
Aniket Mridha Posted On : February 28th, 2023
PGDM in Finance, Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (Graduated 2019)

If you have a non-finance background, it is recommended that you begin your preparation for the JBIMS MSc finance interview at least 4-5 months prior to your interview for the MSc Finance course. You must be sure about your interest in finance, as M.Sc Finance is a very core course. If you have a finance background, you are expected to have a deeper understanding of the points mentioned below. Along with knowing the "whats", you must also know the "whys". In terms of preparation, it is important for you to:

  • Be well-informed about the current market scenario and keep track of SENSEX, NIFTY, gold pricing, INR/USD, and oil pricing.
  • Have a good understanding of the current Indian economy, including its GDP, inflation, and the factors that impact it.
  • Stay updated with the RBI rates, including Repo, Reverse Repo, CRR, and SLR, and know their meanings.
  • Be aware of the current global scenario, such as Demonetisation, BREXIT, and Trump.
  • Consider the question "Why MSc Finance?" as the first and foremost point of focus in your preparation, even if you have a good academic background. You may still be asked why you chose MSc in Finance over an MBA or PGDM.
  • If you have work experience, you must be familiar with your work and its impact on business.

By being thorough with all of these above-mentioned points, you will be well-prepared for the MSc Finance interview.

How is IIM Ranchi MBA finance?

PG
Payal Gupta Posted On : January 11th, 2023
Studied Accounting and Finance (Graduated 2022)

Since you are curious about finance only, I will try to answer your question based on the Finance domain only. To elaborate let’s consider the following merits and demerits

Merits

  • Placements: IIM Ranchi is a new IIM so you cannot get front-end IB roles right off the bat. Yet it offers many roles that can be your stepping stones into the finance world. It does not offer front roles in IB, PE, VC, and bulge bracket equity research. One cannot expect such roles in the near future. But the fact is all these roles are available at the top IIMs only to the cream students. So if your profile is the same, changing the institute won’t matter. Many reputed Investment Banks offer middle office roles like Private credit, Debt capital firms, and Outsourced financial research firms. These roles can kick start your career in finance if not grant you a high-paying job.
  • Faculty: The finance faculty is just average here and only those who are really motivated and determined can survive. Some even quit finance in the second year due to the same reason. The teaching quality is diverse and some may find it not at par with their expectations.
  • Crowd: Most of the students opt for Finance as one of their majors in the second year. Additionally, a team even won the CFA RC India competition and represented India in the Asia Pacific finals. So the crowd is diverse and of premium quality.
  • CFA: The CFA Certification aims at enhancing finance knowledge and placements at large. The class lectures combined with the theoretical knowledge of CFA will make it very easy for you to understand Finance in depth.

Demerits:

  • Lack of major front-end role opportunities
  • Tools like Bloomerang are not much common in the curriculum
  • The relatively new courses in Finance like PE/VC, alternative investments, REITs, SPACs, IPO financing, and M&A are not given enough focus.
  • The teaching faculty needs to be improved

All in all I think IIM Ranchi is a decent choice for Finance and in the years to come will have improved a lot.

Which college should I prefer for Finance: XIMB BM, IMT G or IMI Delhi?

PD
Pinaki Dasgupta Posted On : March 3rd, 2023
Worked at Engineers India Limited

In choosing your B-school, the primary factors that you should consider are, the specialization you want to opt for and the ROI you are expecting. In your case, you want to go for Finance. The list of preferred B Schools you mentioned has similar fees and placements so I will be answering solely based on specialization.

Finance: IMI Delhi is the best choice of all the options when it comes to Finance. A premium quality crowd opts for Finance at IMI Delhi and the main reason is the customized MBA program in Finance. Many companies of the Finance sector visit the campus for placements. Finance students also avail the best opportunities and guidance and have a higher level of security than Marketing students.

However, in case you have more than 2-3 years of work experience, IMI Delhi is not a suitable option. Although you may stand out among your batchmates, the companies visiting the campus are not aware of this and offer roles suitable for less experienced students only. So your work experience may not be credited here.

The general preference order should be: IMI D>XIMB>IMT G
