Mizoram University came into existence from the year 2001 and has been accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ grade. It has a vast area of about 978 acres approximately in the outer region of Aizawl city. The university was also ranked continuously in the rankings for the top 100 universities across India for the years 2016 to 2019. 33 different departments are functioning under the Mizoram university which offers a variety of courses such as UG, PG, M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs under 8 different schools of study. There are 35 colleges affiliated to Mizoram University in addition to a constituent college. Mizoram University is ranked ay 76th place in the category of universities for NIRF 2023.

Admissions to the course of B.Tech. and B.Arch. courses are only done based on the entrance examinations. Whereas, the admissions for the remaining courses can be made either directly in the campus or through the online website of the university. The application process is very simple.

The university provides various scholarships to the students. Some of the scholarships are mentioned below:
- Rajiv Gandhi SC/ST scholarship: INR 16,000 per month for JRF and INR 18,000 per month for SRF
- MZU-UGC fellowship for non-NET Ph.D. students: The students will be awarded INR 8,000 per month
- MZU-UGC fellowship for non-NET M.Phil. students: The students will be awarded INR 5,000 per month

Mizoram University Aizawl Facilities
The university has various facilities for the students to refer and improve their learning skills:
- Central Library: It spreads over nearly 4500 square meters with more than 1,09,000 books. The central library also provides access to online digital libraries using WEB OPAC.
- Hostels: The university provides 12 hostels out of which 5 are for girls and 7 are for boys.
- DBT- Biotech Hub & BIF: This is a Biotechnology hub facilitating training, research publications, and infrastructure enhancement.
- DRDO NEST Centre: The university collaborates with Defence Research and Development Organization to enable students to work with high-level organizations on various projects.
