Lucknow University PhD Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria provided below for admission to various Ph.D. programs.

  • Candidates must have at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC point scale in their respective Master’s degree or a professional degree declared equal to master’s degree shall be eligible for admission to the Ph. D. Programme.
  • For S.C./ S.T./ OBC/ PH candidates, qualifying marks shall be 50% at the Master’s degree level.
  • A student with M.Phil. degree from Indian institute and from foreign educational institute are eligible for Ph.D

Note: The students appearing for the final year or final semester of their post-graduate degree examination will also be eligible to appear for the admission process subject to the fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria.

Lucknow University PhD Admission Admission Process

Ph.D Selection process consists of two steps, which are as follows:

Step 1: Research Entrance Test (RET)

  • The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific.
  • RET will be of 90 minutes duration.
  • There will be a single question paper of 100 marks having 100 multiple choice questions and questions will check the subject proficiency and research aptitude of the candidate.
  •  The minimum qualifying marks for RET will be 50%.

Step 2 - Interview

  • A research proposal (400-600 words) in the area of research interest of the applicants which will be submitted to the interview board.
  • A power point presentation of the said research proposal by the applicant must be presented in front of the interview board
  • Personal Interview (PI)

Note: Candidates must bring all the relevant documents during interview.

Merit List Preparation

  1. The overall merit list would be prepared on basis of marks obtained in the written test and interview.
  2. The merit list would be displayed on the University’s website as well as on the departmental/ Institute’s Notice Board.
  3. In the final merit candidates would be given a weightage of 70 % to the entrance test and 30% to the performance in the interview.
  4. In case of a tie, the first preference will be given to the candidate who secures higher percentage of marks in PG examination.
  5. If the marks secured in PG, UG, 12 class and 10 class marks are also same, then in that case the older candidate will be given priority.

Interested and eligible candidates must visit the official website of Lucknow University i.e. www.lkouniv.ac.in . Step-wise application process is mentioned below:

Step 1Selection of Course - Applicants have to select the Faculty and Course they are interested in. Candidates are advised to read all the instructions before filling their interested PhD course.

Step 2Registration - Applicants have to fill the relevant details in the form provided. Fill name, e- mail id and mobile number carefully because applicants will receive their login details through mobile and email ID provided at the time of registration.

Step 3Personal Details - Applicants have to enter their personal details i.e. name, father’s name and candidate’s category etc.

Step 4: Educational Qualifications - Applicants have to fill their educational qualifications. They have to fill the subjects they studied in the final year of graduation and post-graduation.

Step 5: Upload photo and signature - Applicants have to upload their current photograph and scanned signature. Size of both the scanned files must be correct.

Step 6: Preview - Applicants can preview all the entries made. If there is some error they can edit or can start the entire process again. Once they have submitted the application fee the data submitted cannot be edited under any condition.

Step 7: Application Fee - Application fee for the General/ OBC category is INR 2000 and for SC/ ST/ PH it is INR 1000. If all the information provided by the candidate in the application form is correct, the applicant can submit the form and proceed for payment of the application fees.  Form fees can be submitted by any of the following ways - credit card, debit card, net banking and e– challan.

Step 8: Printout of the application form - Applicants must print their complete application form and fee receipt to complete the application process.

Ques. Is it necessary to qualify NET for the admission to Lucknow University?

Ans. If you have qualified NET exam then you will be exempted from the entrance exam (CET) conducted for Ph.D. admissions by the University of Lucknow. It is not necessary to qualify NET examination for Ph.D. admissions, if you have not qualified NET examination then you may apply for the CET for the admission.
