Dum Dum Motijheel Rabindra Mahavidyalaya, established in 1968, is the general degree college in Kolkata. It offers undergraduate courses in arts and commerce. The Institution saw its dawn through the untiring efforts of such respected educationists as Dr. B.B Dutta, Sri B.K. Sen, Sri Sukumar Bhattacharyya, Sri Santi Dasgupta and Sri Kumares Basu, the founder Principal.

•    Dum Dum Motijheel Rabindra Mahavidyalaya is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
•    The college has been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council of India (NAAC).

Department
The college offers different courses in the subjects like General Science, Science, Commerce, and many more. The different departments of this college are:
Department of Commerce, English, Bengali, Journalism & Mass Communication, Geography, History, Education, Economics, Mathematics, Philosophy, Sanskrit and Political Science.

 



The aim is to provide facilities for studying Commerce Degree course (General and Honors) under Calcutta University and to cater to the needs of the working students through evening classes. Subsequently, under the local demand and pressure, a full-fledged day Commerce College came into being, and the evening shift was done away with. Thus the College was converted into a day College in 1974, and accordingly it came to be known as DumDum Motijheel College of Commerce.

•    To face the challenges of globalization in the field of higher education, and to suit the emerging need of the society at local, regional and national level, the Governing Body of the College resolved to convert the present College of Commerce into a multi-faculty Degree college. 
•    The college, accordingly was re-christened DumDum Motijheel Rabindra Mahavidyalaya in 2004, and the necessary approval from the University of Calcutta for introduction of Arts and Science streams was received with effect from Academic Session 2005-06. 
•    At present, apart from Commerce Course, the college offers Honors Course in 5 Arts subjects & 1 Science subject and General Course in 11 subjects.  
•    The College now provides education to both boys and girls in the Bachelor of Commerce Course, General and Honors as well as Bachelor of Arts and Science, General and Honors. 
•    The B.A./B.Sc. Honors and General degree and the B.Com. Honors and  General degree are meant for those who have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, West Bengal, or an equivalent examination recognized by The West Bengal State University (Barasat, North 24Parganas).
•    M.A. course in Bengali, English, History and Education.
•    The college offers P.G. distance courses by the affiliation of Kalyani University.



Besides high quality education, Dumdum Motijheel Rabindra Mahavidyalaya is known for its focus on extracurricular activities. Sports Seminars and Workshops:
•    The college has organized seminars attended by eminent scholars on commerce-oriented subjects as well as areas of general interest. 
•    It has also arranged career-oriented lecture programmes as well as counseling programmes by prominent concerns linked to management studies, information technology and the print media.

Games & Sports:
•    An encouraging patron of sports and games, the college organizes both indoor and outdoor competitions on a regular basis. 
•    The Annual Sports is a massive whole-day programme at the Calcutta University grounds.

The aim of the college is to provide the necessary resources which will be required in the curriculum.
Library
•    There are a total of around 16000 thousand books of different subjects offered at the college. The books are of highly qualified writers which give exposure to the student and deep knowledge.
•     There are periodically subscribed magazines like: Economics & political Weekly, Management Accountant, J.I.S. management vista, Journal of Business & Economics issue.
•    The library has different daily newspapers indifferent languages for the general knowledge of the students like: Aajkal, The Telegraph, The Financial Express.
•    There are newspapers for employment help like Karmakshetra, Empolyment News.
•     A fair nos. of DVD is available in the college library for display to the student to serve the education purpose.
•    Infrastructural Facilities like the Library remains opened from 11 am to 5 pm for students on all working days. 
•    Spacious Reading Room with sitting provisions of 50 students  and 8 teachers at a time. 
•    Students can  use the library Reading Room /books for day issue  with valid I-card /library lending card.
•    Home issue is restricted to the students having valid lending cards.
•    Two books are issued to a student for seven days at a time
Career Counselling Cell

As the Job market is the main target of the students, this cell promotes career guidance to the students. Besides, a well equipped library, accessibility to the internet, this cell opens different avenues for career enhancement in front of the students.
Digital Class room

The college is one of the privileged colleges to be equipped with a Digital Class room. Besides LED, Computers are there to provide adequate audio-visual aid to the students and add to the quality of effective learning.

UGC-NRC Network
UGC-NRC Network assists the teaching faculty in their research oriented work and thus promotes the quality of the teachers, which in turn is of benefit to the students and the institution as a whole. The facility to use this network is also available to advanced students.
Computer and Internet

Computer facilities along with Internet (Broadband) are available to Teaching, Non-Teaching Staff members and students for academic and administrative work. Adequate LAN connections are installed in Digital Classroom, Career Counselling Cell, UGC-NRC network and college office for smooth functioning of the academic and administrative work. The entire system is supported by uninterrupted power supply with inverter/generator.
Canteen

The college has a subsidized cheap canteen for students. Fresh and delicious food along with filtered drinking water from Aquaguard is available in canteen.
Students’ Health Home

The college is associated with the West Bengal State Students’ Health Home. Students can avail any sort of medical facilities on production of the college identity card.
