City College, Kolkata is a constituent undergraduate college of the University of Calcutta. Established in 1881, it is one of the tradition institutions of Kolkata, and played a projecting social role in the rouse of the Bengal Renaissance of the 19th century. It is one of the City group colleges managed by Brahmo Samaj Education Society, constituted by the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj, Kolkata.

  • The college is located at 102/1, Raja Rammohan Roy Sarani - Amherst street, Kolkata

  • This institution was originated as a high school on 6 January 1879, by Ananda Mohan Bose in partnership with 2 other educationists, Sir Surendranath Banerjea and Pandit Sivanath Sastri of Sadharan Brahmo Samaj

  • It aims to promote the source of education in its uppermost and broadest sense: to make the education—understanding the training of the heart, mind and body

  • The college from its modest start has grown into a mighty institution during the period of about 130 years

NSS - Some of the notable activities conducted in recent past by the students are:

  • Conducting two health camps (eye check-up along with free distribution of spectacles and general-cum- cardiology)

  • Thalassemia awareness programme

  • Organizing an art-and-craft workshop (soft toys training programme) as well as a sit-and-draw competition for underprivileged children of a rural area

  • Conducting a socio-economic survey in the locality

  • Undertaking a tree plantation drive in college campus and adjacent areas of the College

Annual Magazine - The College publishes an Annual Magazine, rich with contributions from present and ex-members of the staff, students and alumni.

Student Union

  • The students' union provides a common platform where students from different social background and communities develop a sense of collective action

  • The union also provides financial assistance to the poor but deserving candidates of the college

Sports - The college encourages sports activities both indoor and outdoor with special emphasis on cricket and football, organizes intra-class cultural competitions and annual sports meet. The College participates in various contests organized by Calcutta University as well as by State level Sports Bodies like the CAB, IFA, and WBTTA etc

  • Broad Band Internet facilities are available for searching e-resources. The Library provides OPAC ( On-line Public Access Catalogue) service for searching books
