Netaji Nagar College was founded in 1986 for Women & is a Government Aided Undergraduate College functioned by active co-operation of Higher Education Council, Government of West Bengal.
•    It is affiliated from the University of Calcutta under Section - 2(f) and 12B of UGC Act, 1956.
•    The college is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
•    The mission of the college is to light the torch of enlightenment through higher education among girl students of the society. 
•    The motive of college is to train women and empower them through education so that they may achieve social consciousness and economic freedom by imparting education that is not only liberal but also contemporary in its concepts, emphasizing self-reliance, with an eye to the future.
Department
•    There are sixteen departments altogether in Science, Humanities and Home Science faculties.
•    The increasing demands of the guardians and students are met by the college and it has introduced four Honors subjects – Food & Nutrition, Environmental Science, and Political Science & Philosophy from the academic session 2010–11.

 



The college is best known for its academic excellence. The organization aims at teaching the young and dynamic students in order to making them fit to face the challenges of 21st century. The college excels in academics with the excellent performance of the students year after year. The college offers honors degree in many subjects.
•    The Department of Science offers Honors in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Environmental Science, and Food and Nutrition.
•    The Department of Arts offers Honors courses in Bengali, English, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Economics, Education, and Film Studies.

 



Besides high quality education, netaji Nagar College for Women is known for its focus on extracurricular activities. The college encourages its students to participate in other activities that are organized from time to time. There are various activities throughout the year in which students participate.
National Service Scheme
The NSS unit of the college organizes various types of social work: Medical awareness programmes e.g. Blood donation camp, Eye Testing Camp, Biological and Pathological Testing, Environmental Consciousness and Scientific Awareness Programmes and 7 days special camp in the slum areas. Programme officer of NSS unit is in charge of the NSS activities. 
•    The aim and objectives of the N.S.S. include the involving of the youth in constructive and developmental programmes, participation in the socio-economic life of the community, encouraging national integration and so on. 
•    Every year volunteers from among the students are enrolled and after the completion of 120 hours of work, certificates are issued by the University. 
•    The NSS Certificate holders get preference in various services and fields. Students are asked to join the NSS from the beginning of the new academic session. 
•    In the recent past, the NSS Unit of the College has organized the following Programmes:
•    Awareness Programme on cancer to increase consciousness about cancer.
•    An AID’s awareness programme to increase consciousness about AID’s and about prevention of AID’s.
•    Free Medical advice and Distribution of Free medicines among the poor patients.

College Magazine:
There are two types of magazines which are published by the college. 
•    Wall Magazine: Students actively participate in publishing the wall- magazines of different departments. Four issues of the magazine are published in a year. It encourages the students to contribute their articles on various subjects for publication.
•    Annual Magazine: The college publishes an annual magazine enriched with contributions from members of the staff and the students on various subjects. The magazine helps to kindle the creative talents of the students and the staff of the College.
Annual Social Function:
•    The College Annual Social Function is organized by the College. 
•    Besides the Annual Social Function, the College has regularly arranged, intercollegiate, inter-class and interschool cultural competitions for the development of healthy relationship among the Students communities.
