What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Provide the students an exposure with latest literary development and practices”

Being a faculty member, I have to prepare lecture material, deliver teaching assignments and further assess and evaluate the students. With my administrative position of in-charge co-curricular activities, I encourage students to adopt and participate in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities thereby promoting them for holistic development as individuals. I relish mentorship while supporting them in understanding their subject and guiding them in their research work.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“By listening to their individual obligation and try to resolve grievances”

A cordial atmosphere and mutual academic support have always remained the prerequisite of any institution to stand and flourish. I have been consistently engaged in working out a cooperative equation among students and teachers of the department. Being a mentor, I listen to their individual obligation separately and try to remove any obstacle whether it is social or economic as per my limitations. Easy accessibility of the teachers truly opens many opportunities for the learners making them competitive and zealous. We make our students analyze and contribute through their feedback. As a team, we work collectively with debates and discussions thereby promoting and motivating each other.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“Implement skill-based training and dynamic education practices”

Effective strategies are provided to make the course more industry-oriented. Department of English, BPSMV offers MA two-year and 5-year MA integrated program which incorporates the curriculum in such a manner that the students can prepare for the competitive exams, become efficient teachers, get a job in journalism, become creative writers, copy editors, etc. Language Labs of BPSMV focus on the aspect of communication skills which is said to be the life skill in NEP 2020. Papers on Business and Communication Skills, Developing Writing skills, History of English Literature are taught to the students of MA integrated. History of English literature orients students towards the preparation of NET exam which open arenas for teaching at college and university level.

What has been your vision for the growth of this College?

Promoting research aptitude and enabling the girl students with education along with field visit to NSD”

My vision was to educate and empower girl students. Girl education can help society grow holistically and it can be a strong pillar in Nation building and development. Educating the students for their integral development, making them self-reliant and also creating awareness towards values. Now, to fulfill that vision of mine, I find myself consistently engaged with student development activities. I mentor them by giving exposure to academic tours, cultural programmes, sports and extension lectures, and visiting NSD and other institutions.

What do you see as the department’s greatest strengths?

"The strength of this department is the highly qualified faculty with international exposure”

The department’s greatest strength is the faculty which is highly qualified with international exposure. The programme MA integrated (5 years) is a five-year course that gives a thorough imbibing of literature and language giving them opportunities in various fields. The research i.e., Ph.D. program is in Linguistics, Literature, Drama, Indian classics and that adhere to contemporary needs. All the faculty members are involved in research activities. I shall miss something if I forgot to mention the other pillar that is our students. In fact, both teachers and students make the answer complete.
