Dr Deepika Mishra is the Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur. She has done B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, M Tech in Machine Design and is pursuing Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. With more than 10 years of experience, she has been associated with prestigious organizations of the domain. She has been involved with research work in the field of Optimization, Friction Stir Welding and Impact Analysis. She has published three research papers and three International Conference papers. She is also a PTC certified trainer for CREO software.

What are your core responsibilities towards the department and its students?

Plan, schedule, and organize lectures and practicals for the student’s academic process”

  • Complete the syllabus of the courses assigned to me.
  • Prepare Lecture plan, and course material.
  • Encourage students to participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate theoretical and practical instructions.
  • To take all needful steps for R&D and establish a Centre of Excellence.
  • To attend FDP and workshops to sharpen and upgrade my skills.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented? 

“Experiential learning and practical skill-oriented curricular activities are developed”

  • Conducting lab activities and assessing that as a part of the evaluation.
  • Adding industrial applications with each topic of an individual course.
  • Conducting industrial visits for students.
  • Conducting guest lectures and expert interaction with top education leaders.

How do you strategize the curriculum for students' better learning?

“The department regularly identifies the gaps in curriculum with the help of faculty members”

The strategies adopted to benefit the students include establishing a collaborative academic process and personalized learning for all students. The curriculum is updated as per industry requirements in a timely manner.

How do you prepare students for placements and higher education?

“By introducing them to newer subjects, courses and skills of the domain”

In order to enhance the skills of students to match industrial and higher studies requirements, I have introduced courses for mechanical engineering students. These are:

  • Computer-aided product design.
  • Modelling of engineering materials.
  • Computer-aided product design and manufacturing.
  • Training program on CREO.
  • Training program on CNC machines.

How do you help your students thrive in the current competitive world?

Teach communication, collaboration and healthy competition as a value and skill set”

  • Evaluate information accuracy. New information is being discovered and disseminated at a phenomenal rate. 
  • In order for collaboration to happen, job applicants will be evaluated by their ability to communicate with, and tolerance for unfamiliar cultures and ideas. 
  • Use Learning Beyond the Classroom
  • New ‘learning’ does not become permanent memory unless there is repeated stimulation.

Do you have any extracurricular activities to enhance the skills of the students?

Student clubs introduced to provide them with a space to showcase their skill sets”

We have several clubs that organize events frequently, for students to showcase their innovation and creativity. The Robotic Club has organized technical events like Techbout, Robotics and Design Thinking, Robothon 2021, etc. Also, students can participate in annual cultural meet and sports meet organized at the university level.

Self-learning, self-dependency and up-gradation of skills is essential in today’s world”

  • Be punctual and serious about your studies.
  • Always try to learn new technologies and software. It will help you cope with new industrial trends.
  • Respect your organization, special surrounding and team members.
