Dr. H P Agrawal is presently working as Assistant professor, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Institute of Engineering and technology at JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur. Having a career span of over 18 years, he has held teaching and administrative positions such as Head of Department, Controller of Examination, Course Coordinator and Vice Principal at various engineering institutes across the country. Also, he has designed and conducted various faculty development programs, workshops and seminars. 

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Guidance, engagement and preparation for higher studies”

Being an Assistant professor, I engage the class regularly and punctually. I develop the course handouts and practice questions for all the courses, and include the industry problems in the course contents to prepare students for the future. Managing the record of all the students, mentoringship and orientation, conducting academic activities like expert talk, industrial visits, etc., arranging practical training and placement opportunities for the students, and preparation of competitive exams are my responsibilities towards them. 

How do you tend to establish a healthy environment within your department?

“Creating faithful and sound relationships with others”

Developing positive and respectful relationships with the students and other faculty helps in bringing in a healthy atmosphere. By setting clear expectations and practicing class procedure, building a trusting relationship and integrating the creativity relevant to lesson plans in the class to increase the student participation tends to set up a positive and healthy environment. 

How do you strategize the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?

“Potential practical practise for full exposure”

We organize the course curriculum with full industry integrations encompassing various aspects of the industrial and practical world. We include industrial oriented contents and multidisciplinary courses as electives to enhance students’ area of expertise. Also, we have more courses-based and project-based learning (PBL) approaches to enrich students with real life experiences.

How do you help your student to cope up with the high competition outside?

“Providing various aspects of learning and growth”

We prepare students in accordance with the industry standards and help them learn skills throughout their journey. We help students learn through their strengths, improve teamwork and collaborations, and develop better concepts of core courses to inculcate stronger skills that give them a competitive edge outside. Group discussions and quizzes are a part of regular classroom activity to boost their confidence and learning. 

What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to train the students?

“Research and specialized training for futuristic goals”

We conduct regular mentorship and counselling programs to give students a clear idea of further job aspects and career opportunities. We motivate students to develop research projects, undergo research with industries and publish their workings as well. We prepare for placements through training and mock interviews, and also help them prepare for competitive exams and higher studies.

What valuable advice would you like to give to the aspiring students?

“Prepare yourself with advance skills and techniques”

Students must start preparing themselves well in advance. They must learn and foster better basic concepts from the very start of engineering and must learn some programming languages as well. They should participate in technical competitions, conferences and seminars to know the relevant skills with the changing market trends.
