What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Mentoring, guiding, evaluating, motivating and encouraging”

As a Professor, I design courses and develop methodologies to educate students about the emerging topics of health, safety and environment engineering. I motivate and engage students towards thinking creative and innovative solutions to the problems related to the domains. Also, I evaluate the students for consultation on a regular basis to solve their difficulties and enhance their understanding of the subject(s) that I am teaching. Providing extensive coverage of the courses and completing the syllabus within the stipulated time, guiding students on career opportunities and informing about job opportunities are my role towards the students.

How do you tend to establish a healthy environment within your Institute?

“Thriving relations and positive classroom culture”

Developing positive, respectful relationships with the students and fellow faculty are keys to a healthy learning atmosphere for all. I establish a trusting classroom with mutual respect and active, engaging learning opportunities. Me and my fellow colleagues make the learning process fun for the students, listening to their problems associated with the course and giving them the freedom to express themselves. I appreciate different ideas and efforts that we put along to run the course smoothly. Frequent interactions, being supportive and flexible, correcting them in a constructive way are my approaches to build healthy relations with my fellow faculty.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“Innovative classroom teaching and imparting latest knowledge”

Along with regular classroom activities, recent trends and developments adopted by various industries to execute projects are discussed on a regular basis. Case studies are also introduced to make the students aware of the critical things that play a vital role in various industries. These classroom concepts are supplemented by well-designed laboratory experiments for enhancing the understanding of the concepts. At JK Lakshmipat University, various sessions and courses are made available to the students to gain expertise in software packages which are commonly used for Health, safety and Environmental auditing, data analysis, etc. Various experts in the domain of Health safety and environmental engineering are invited to share their insights about the recent developments with the students.

How do you strategize the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?

“Regular upsetting and internship to gain practical exposure”

The curriculum is designed by taking into consideration the expectations and needs of the industry and feedback from alumni. The curriculum is revised every year and emerging core and interdisciplinary subjects are introduced to keep the students up to date. Internships and Industrial Projects are an integral part of our structure that enhances students' skills and encourages them to carry out independent research in collaboration with reputed institutes or industries. Also, students are taken to various industries to provide them with exposure to various disciplines of Chemical Engineering.

What are your views on the placements of the students from your department?

“Training and accomplishing students with relevant skills for job market”

Every year, numerous companies visit the campus and offer placement opportunities. The students of JK Lakshmipat University are trained well in Health, Safety and Environmental Engineering courses along with critical thinking and communication courses to make them competent to learn, analyze complex situations and express themselves when they appear for placement opportunities. These skills help students to crack jobs through campus and off-campus placements. Generally, the majority of the students in this university are offered placements directly by the organization where they carry out internship works in Industrial Project-I and Industrial Project-II. In addition, students have the flexibility to appear for additional placement interviews of various companies that visit the campus over time.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high?

“Offering valuable exposure and job oriented skills”

Few of the courses of Health, Safety and Environmental Engineering are supplemented with high-quality courses of NSC, NIBOSH, NPTEL, Swayam etc. to mould the students to cope up with the increasing competition. In addition, the students are exposed to the application of software packages that are usually used in the HSE auditing for all process industries. The students are constantly motivated through expert and distinguished lectures to make them aware of the developments in the industries and enhance their performance to excel in their career. Various activities such as quizzes and innovation challenges related to health hazards, safety hazards and environmental hazards to address difficulties are organized to enhance the skills of the students and expose them to real-world challenges.

What challenges do you face to uplift the quality of education in your department?

“Maintaining the quality and integrity within”

As a teacher, constant effort is required to keep the course updated, and conveying the course without compromising the quality of the content with appropriate time management is a challenging task. There was a challenge during the pandemic situation as well, where the on-campus classroom teachings had to be conducted through online mode. Gradually, the techniques were adopted to effectively conduct the classes and provide the students with a near classroom experience by utilizing various tools, techniques and online platforms to deliver the content efficiently without compromising the quality of teaching and evaluation process.

What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to train the students?

“Interactive and practical learning for better understanding”

Instead of teaching in the traditional manner, initially, the students are introduced with the reasons and motivation for learning the concepts. The laboratory experiments are shuffled along with the classroom teachings in order to make the students understand the concepts sequentially. Case studies are often discussed to keep the students motivated. Students are often provided with thought-provoking assignments so that they develop a tendency to address the problems in a professional manner from the initial stages.
