IIIT Bangalore iMtech in CSE or NIT Surathkal BTech in CSE, what should I choose?

SG

Studied BTech in Computer Science, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2019)

Both are great institutions in terms of academics and in terms of placements too, but there are some major factors that make IIIT Bangalore better than NIT Surathkal.

  • Hygiene at campus and hostel: Both the hostel and campus of IIIT Bangalore are very clean. As cleanliness is very much important for all of us the hostel and campus of IIIT Bangalore are well maintained which is not the case at NIT Surathkal. This is very important for all of us and cannot be neglected.
  • Study Curriculum: The study curriculum of IIIT Bangalore is very much up to date and it has all the important topics and syllabus which is important in today's world and will be helpful for the students in their future.
  • Admission based on merit: The admissions at IIIT Bangalore are completely based on the student's merit and there is no influence of other factors like caste, gender, management quota, etc. Students get admission based on his/her JEE score.
  • Good research and industry opportunities: This college provides good research facilities to its students and the prime location of this college also helps to get more focus and attention which plays a major role to get further opportunities to its students.

But there are few demerits of the college too like -

Life at this college can be difficult which is similar to many colleges in our country, as the environment there is not that fancy like it is shown in our movies but one can get used to it after spending a few months.

The college fest is not that great and interesting as compared to other colleges where the fests are organized in a grand way but this is slowly improving as both the students and the college are putting in efforts to make it better.

IT in NIT Surathkal is always a better option than CSE in SVNIT Surat. NIT Surathkal is a much better college than SVNIT Surat in almost every aspect. The faculty of SVNIT might be a little better in CSE department than NIT Surathkal in the IT department but except this, in every way, NIT Surathkal is much better. The curriculum of this college is up to date and the infrastructure of this college is also much better including the laboratories. DN
Debarati Nag Posted On : April 13th, 2021

Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal is a very good branch as there is a rising requirement of materials science and engineering and their number of students taking admission in this branch is comparatively less than other branches like Civil, Mechanical or Electrical so you can expect less competition in this field.

Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal

Course Fee

1.85 lakh

Placement Percentage

54%

Average CTC

7 LPA

The course is really good and it gives a strong base to the students for their higher studies which is quite important in this field. The department is now called Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and it focuses more on materials engineering. The professors here are very good at their job and are enthusiastic about teaching. They teach very well and create an interest among the students.

The facilities are not that great but are good enough as an engineering college. There is one SEM and XRD, metallurgy lab, materials testing lab, and a good heat treatment lab. The placement records are quite good too and it exposes you to various companies so you can secure a job in both core and non-core companies.

Do you enjoy your life at NIT Surathkal?

SM
Simi Majhi Posted On : March 22nd, 2021
Bachelor of Technology Computer Science and Engineering, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal

One of my friends is studying in this institute, and he once told me that he had enjoyed it a lot in his two years at the campus. I will try to highlight some of his experience at the institute.

Infrastructure:

The campus is massive. My friend was overwhelmed when he saw this campus for the first time.

Diversity:

  • My friend told me that many of the students here had started several start-ups after completing their graduate studies. Also, many students already started a start-up with college funding.
  • Students here are generous in Mathematics; some play FIFA very well, and this diversification is really tough to explain. Thereby, getting to know them and making interactions with them is the best part.

Club Culture:

  • There are several technical clubs in this institute, namely, LSD Toastmasters club, Artists’ Forum, and SPICMACAY.
  • First-year students can explore many things here, as this club culture conducts several lectures, games, and competitions.

College Life:

  • College life is strict enough, and it begins at 8 am in the morning and finishes at 5 pm. Professors are quite dedicated.
  • Students have to do deadline-based class assignments besides their study, as these are truly necessary to robust the minds with learning new things.

Daily life:

  • You can go out cycling inside the campus at night.
  • There is a parlor, namely Nandini Parlour, which remains open until 10:30 pm, so you can go there to eat or spend some time with friends.

Fests:

There are two major fests in NIT Surathkal.

  • Incident:It is the annual cultural fest of this institute. It is a 5 days occasion, and the students of NIT Surathkal work very hard to conduct this fest successfully.
  • Engineer:It is the annual technological fest, and tech stuff is mainly shown on this occasion. This fest provides a great opportunity for engineering students, and they exhibit their handmade engineering projects in this fest.

Film Club:

  • Joining the film club can be stress-relieving. You can enjoy good movies in different languages with your mates.
  • You can also watch international cricket matches, IPL.
  • Students also conduct the film fest in which different movies from different languages are screened.

This covers mostly what my friend told me about his life at campus. Hope it helps.

What should I choose: Electronics and Instrumentation in BITS Pilani Goa Campus, Electrical and Electronics in NIT Surathkal?

AC
Ankit Chaudhari Posted On : March 21st, 2023
nstrumentation engineering graduate

To make an informed decision, it's crucial to understand that changing your choice based on the college you get into won't have much impact. You should acknowledge that Electronics and Instrumentation in BITS Pilani Goa Campus and Electrical and Electronics in NIT Surathkal are two distinct engineering streams with different colleges, and both colleges are excellent in their own right.

Your selection of the branch should entirely depend on your interest. If you are intrigued by electrical or electronic circuits or have been fascinated by electricity since childhood, EEE is the perfect fit for you. Conversely, if you have an interest in instruments or daily life gadgets that make our lives more comfortable, you should opt for E&I.

Keep in mind that EEE focuses on circuit design and development, while E&I focuses on circuit implementation in industries or the real world. EEE is a core branch that concentrates on its domain, but E&I combines all other core branches such as Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical, and even Computer Science.

Both EEE and E&I offer excellent job prospects in the market. E&I graduates can work in core fields or software industries. There is a plethora of industries related to electrical and electronics, so EEE also offers ample job opportunities. Therefore, both branches are exceptional in their way. Choose the one that piques your interest and don't sacrifice your area of interest due to college selection.

I have a choice between IT (Information Technology) in NIT, Surathkal and CS (computer science) in RVCE, Bangalore. Which one would be a better choice in terms of placements, Brand name etc.?

RS
Rima Sarkar Posted On : March 22nd, 2021
IIT BHU (2019)

Between the options, you should choose NIT Surathkal IT. Here are the reasons why.

  • The syllabus difference between IT and CSE is not so much in this institute.
  • The placement process in the institute is exceptional, specifically for the circuit branches, including IT, CSE, ECE, and EEE. However, in the last year, students are recruited by Google and Microsoft.
  • NITK has its own brand name. Maybe it is an NIT, but the students here get a lot of exposure. JEE Mains toppers mainly take admission in this institute every year.

You will have to stay here in the hostel, which provides a good experience for them. During the tenure of the course, you will learn how to take care of yourself. Also, if your hometown is Bangalore, then you can frequently visit home.

How are the girls hostels at NIT Surathkal?

AK
Aayush Khurana Posted On : March 23rd, 2021
Studied M.Tech from University of Allahabad

My friend studies in NIT Surathkal and the 295-acre campus is exquisite. My friend resides in the hostel there and he has shared his experience with me.

To begin with, there are 5 girls’ hostel blocks named as follows- GH1, GH2, GH3, GH4, and GH5. The recent addition to the already existing 4 blocks, is the GH5, and it is the best one of the lot but is available to only some final year students after qualifying for the lucky draw.

Here are some more particulars:

  • In the first and second year, you will have to share a room with 2 or even 3 students. As you move to the 3rd and subsequently 4th year, you will be able to get a single occupancy hostel room. The hostels’ buildings are further divided on the basis of the course you select in the first year.
  • There are time restrictions though for girls, as follows- 7:30 for first-year students and 9:30 for the subsequent years.
  • As for facilities available in the hostels; there is a night canteen, a mess with ice cream serving twice a week, and a shopping complex with grocery and fruit shops.
  • In the room, there are chairs, a table, a steel bed, and an almirah.

All these hostels have WiFi or LAN available, but the connectivity is good only in the newly constructed GH5.
