Questions Asked On ICT Mumbai, Mumbai

Why is ICT, Mumbai not converted to IIEST whereas other colleges like CUSAT are?

UZ
Uzma Zarin Posted On : July 29th, 2021
Studied at Cochin University of Science and Technology (2019)

CUSAT has yet to receive an IIEST upgrade. The work is still on, and funds have been allocated to strengthen the infrastructure in the next few years. Being an ex-student of the college, I'm not sure when it'll be upgraded.

  • Many people at the college, as far as I know, do not want it to be upgraded to an IIEST.
  • There's a lot of politics involved there.
  • Also not sure why certain people at the institute don't want to take advantage of it because being an IIEST has a lot of advantages.

To answer your question, despite being an excellent college, the Ananda Krishnan committee has not recommended ICT Mumbai for conversion to an IIEST. Let me give you a list of potential causes:

  • It is a modest institute in terms of campus size (16 acres), however, there is a need for more space for future expansion.
  • This is one of IIEST's requirements (a lot of space for further improvement of infrastructure and expansion).
  • Standard engineering courses such as CSE, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Metallurgy, and Mining are not offered.
  • The institute is known for Chemical Engineering.

The institute offers Bachelor’s degrees in B. Pharma, Food Engineering and Technology, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, Polymer Engineering and Technology, Surface Coating Technology, Oils, Oleochemicals and Surfactants Technology, etc.

Which is better for Chemical Engineering, NIT Rourkela or ICT Mumbai?

DS
Dheeraj Sengupta Posted On : April 8th, 2021
Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (2017)

My suggestion will be the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. The reasons are mentioned below.

  • It is solely dedicated to chemical engineering, unlike NIT Rourkela.
  • It is famous for producing brilliant chemical engineers for years now.
  • It has location benefits as Maharashtra and Gujarat are home to many industries. This helps in easy internship opportunities and placements also.
  • Many good companies and even PSUs participate in the campus placement drive. Even if you have low CGPA points, you will get hired if you do well at the interview.
  • The professors are the best in their respective domains. They also have good connections in the industry. They can help you get placed in any industry with just one letter.

Chemical engineering is a part of many departments in NIT Rourkela or any other NIT but ICT Mumbai specializes in it. Hope it helps.

SP
Semma Patel Posted On : March 28th, 2022

Institute of Chemical Technology Mumbai Chemical Engineering and VJTI CS, both has good placement record.

  • At ICT, the average for Chemical Engineering branch is 6-7 LPA. The placement average is 70%. BPCL, Exxon, Dr. Reddy are some of the major recruiters for the branch.
  • VJIT CS average package is INR 10.34 LPA. The placement rate is 89%. Microsoft, JP Morgan are top recruiters.

It’s not really possible to compare Chemical industry giants like BASF to tech giants like Google or Microsoft. Since the placements are good for both options, you should choose the institute according to your branch preference.

You should choose COEP CS. The placement record for the branch is excellent. If you maintain good grades for four years and have the required skills, getting good placement opportunities won’t be difficult.

TCS, Accenture, Infosys, etc. are some of the major recruiters that recruit CS students through campus placements. The highlights of COEP placements show the average CTC for CSE to be around INR 6.5 LPA. While the highest CTC goes up to INR 30 LPA.
