Is the Executive Certificate in HRM from XLRI and SHRM worthy? It's a 6 months course for 2 years experienced HR professionals.

XLRI is one of the most reputed business schools in India, and it has established its name in the industry. If you're interested in learning about the course contents, there are several resources available online that can give you an idea about the curriculum and course structure.

It's important to note that XLRI offers both part-time and distance education courses. While part-time courses are generally considered more valuable than distance education ones, it's essential to choose a course that fits your schedule and learning needs.

If you're already working in the HR domain, it's crucial to gather as much exposure and experience as possible in this line of work. Having good qualifications, along with work experience, can make a significant positive difference when looking for jobs in the future.

XLRI offers several certifications that are recognized in the industry. Two of the most popular certifications are the Human Resource Management Certification and the Senior Human Resource Professional Certification.

However, it's important to remember that certifications should not be solely associated with career advancement. Certifications are an opportunity to learn new things and gain fresh insights. The value of certification lies in the journey of learning and the community of people you meet along the way.

Having a certification can give a strong impression to your current organization and future employers that you're someone who values continuous learning and professional development.

In today's fast-paced world, gone are the days when people would learn to work. It's now more important than ever to work to learn continuously, and certifications can be a great way to achieve this.

AM
Aditya Mukherjee Posted On : August 5th, 2022
Studied at Xavier School of Management

XLRI placements witness international offers for HRM each year. Novartis, American Express, HUL, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Alghanim, Mondelez, etc. are some of the major recruiters that offered international profiles for HRM at XLRI, in past. Few multinational companies also give the opportunities to work in an Indian location for 2-3 years and then move to an international location.

Should one specialize in HR from IIM Ahmedabad?

AS
Aishwarya Sinha Posted On : November 15th, 2022
PwC India | RBS | SAC - XLRI | ABG Scholar Nominee

Although IIM Ahmedabad is not the best HR campus, it is the best in its class. Furthermore, it is believed that the 'Specialization' thing should not be dependent on the institute, but rather on what a person sees their career as being in. Choose wisely, regardless of the institute, because you will have to live with it for many years.

IIM Ahmedabad does not offer an HR specialization. However, you can always add more HR electives to your PGP program in the second year to help your cause. If you are certain that you want to work in human resources, apply to XLRI or TISS. They offer the best HRM education in India.

What should I do to clear the GD/PI of XLRI Jamshedpur for HR? Assuming that I have plenty of time to prepare, what should be my strategy?

IC
Indrani Chatterjee Posted On : April 18th, 2023
PGDM from Xavier School of Management (2018)

Group Discussion (GD) will be different from a regular topic-based GD, as it will be ranked-based. In this type of GD, a list of activities will be given to the group, and the members will have to come to an agreement about the importance of each activity. This type of GD does not require specific knowledge on any topic but will require strong communication skills to participate effectively.

Since everyone in the group will have to chime in to speak, there is a high probability that the discussion could become chaotic and disorganized. This should not allow you as a candidate to give up on contributing to the discussion as this will negatively affect the panel’s perception of you. Keep trying to engage with the discussion in a polite manner.

Interview -  The type of questions that can be expected in the PI can be about why the candidate is interested in HR, why they want to do an MBA, and why they want to do it in XLRI. You can also be asked about your educational background and work experience, as well as about how you'd react to hypothetical situations. The key to handling this kind of probing is to remain calm, keep a smile on your face, and not let a single bad answer affect the entire interview.

How do the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, and XIMB measure up to the established ones of XLRI, TISS, MDI and SCMHRD?

AA
Apoorv Ashutosh Posted On : January 11th, 2023
Former PhD Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)

The simple answer to your question is no, the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, or XIMB are not at par with the established ones XLRI, TISS, MDI, and SCMHRD. The established programs especially that of XLRI are the epitome of HR programs. They cannot be compared to the new ones at any given level or parameter.

  • Faculty: The professors of XLRI are renowned throughout the industry for their competency. They specialize in almost every domain one can think of be it Law, Competency Modeling, Compensation, or Performance Management.
  • Peers: It’s the cream students who get the opportunity to get into a prestigious college like XLRI. You can see tough competition between the finest students at college. Every individual has a valuable opinion and stands to contradict others. Their thinking pattern is broad and given a case study, they look at all angles from accounting to finance to laws while proposing the solution. The situation at TISS is also quite similar.

Now one can say that the curriculum can be replicated and learned faculty can be sought to match the quality of the HR program at these institutes. But the truth is faculty and curriculum are the main but not the only factors that determine an institute's worth. Its own culture, ethics, and background have a lot to do with the programs it offers.

So one cannot match XLRIs programs no matter how much they try.

How good is the HR MBA Course at SCMHRD? Is it comparable to XLRI and TISS?

AC
Amit Choudhury Posted On : October 3rd, 2022
M.A. in Human Resource Management, Tata Institute of Social Sciences

SCMHRD offers a good HR MBA program. It offers a decent curriculum and placements. SCMHRD placements in 2021 concluded with an average CTC of INR 16.5 LPA. The highest CTC offered was INR 33.6 LPA.

For HR, XLRI is better than SCMHRD. TISS is a great option for HR as well. In terms of placements, SCMHRD is comparable to TISS.

How is IIM Ranchi HRM?

PT
Parth Tawde Posted On : January 11th, 2023
PGP from Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2018)

As a fresher, you will find the curriculum quite hectic and unapproachable. Yet with proper motivation and enough time you will find yourself adapting to the rigor and it will become a part of your life. Some major highlights of the course are

  • Induction program: IIM Ranchi conducts a unique induction process wherein students from all the programs work together. It helps to inculcate Teamwork, creativity, and leadership through various tasks. The Introduction To Business session gives you a broad idea of both HR and other domains like Marketing, Finance, Operations, etc.
  • Curriculum: The curriculum at IIM Ranchi does not solely focus on HR subjects. Rather, it gives a strategic and integrative perspective from the very beginning. This aims at giving rise to future HR Leaders as Business Partners. The Foundation courses cover a broad spectrum like HR Scorecard, Job Evaluation, and Job Analysis.
  • Specialization: Another major highlight of the course is the specialization opportunity offered to its students. Apart from General HR Management, the PGDHRM course lets you specialize in Industrial/Labour Relations as well as Organization Development. This is a book for people who want to work in PSUs or crack exams like UGC NET. This makes it the first IIM to offer specialization in HR as well as the first IIM to offer specialization within its HR course.
  • SHRM guidelines: The content of its curriculum is based on the SHRM guidelines which is an International HR body to give the best to students in terms of knowledge.
  • Placements: The placement statistics of HR program are as follows

Particulars

Statistics

Number of recruiters

21

Number of students

72

Highest salary

INR 32.21 LPA

Average salary

INR 15.63 LPA

Major Sectors

IT/ITES, BFSI, Consulting

Top recruiters

Accenture, Aditya Birla Capital, AICL, Adian Paints, Capgemini, EY, Flipkart

All these make the HR program a considerably decent option.

Which is better XIMB HR or IIM Nagpur?

AS
Ajay Singh Posted On : January 17th, 2023
MBA in Master of Business Administration Degrees & Marketing, Vienna University of Economics and Business (Graduated 2017)

One of my friends pursued BTech from a renowned IIT and even had work experience when he got an offer from IIM Nagpur. He wasn’t sure if joining it would be worth it but a few months into the college made him realize that it was one of the best decisions of his life. He claimed that the following points convinced him to join IIM Nagpur

  • The IIM Ahmedabad mentorship
  • The IIM tag
  • The pedagogy is top-notch coming from the best professors of IIM Ahmedabad
  • You get to spend one trimester in IIM Ahmedabad which itself is a lifetime experience
  • The student exchange programs allow you to study at a foreign university for 3 months

I have seen many people forgoing offers from XIMB-BM, IIM Kashipur, IIM Indore- Mumbai campus VGSOM and all the newest IIMs to join IIM Nagpur. Its fast-paced growth and promising placement opportunities are the main reasons for the same. So I think IIM Nagpur is way better than XIMB.

How are the MBAs in HR placements at JBIMS?

MS
Maulik Shah Posted On : February 21st, 2023
M.M.S. Master of Business Administration Degrees & Finance, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies

My sister completed her MBA from JBIMS last year and says that no one from her batch had taken HR as their specialization. Therefore HR profiles are rarely offered during placements. But once or twice the HR profiles were opened up in the college as 2-3 students were willing to go for it.

But we cannot deny the fact that it will take a tremendous amount of time for college to build a reputation in HR and hence attract top job profiles in the domain.

My personal suggestion would be that if JBIMS decides to start a full-time specialized program in HR, it would greatly benefit the entire MMS program by attracting better profiles during placements, for all the streams in general.

How good is IIM Trichy HR? What's the placement status?

AM
Ankit Malik Posted On : January 13th, 2023
studies at Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (2024)

The IIM Trichy HR program is a relatively new program that started in 2020. Owing to its lack of credibility not many go for this course.

The table below compares the Placement Statistics of the regular PGP and PGP-HR programs at IIM Trichy.

Particulars

PGPM - HR

PGPM

Highest CTC

INR 17.6 LPA

INR 34 LPA

Average CTC

INR 13.3 LPA

INR 17.01 LPA

Median CTC

INR 14 LPA

INR 16 LPA

Average CTC of Top 25% Students

INR 15.6 LPA

Average CTC of Top 25% Students

Top Recruiters

Ashok Leyland, Hyundai, Wipro

Amazon, Dell, Nomura

From the table we can infer that the highest CTC of the HR program is nearly half of that of the regular program. This clearly speaks about its placement opportunities. So I will suggest you go for HR only if you are really interested in it, else go for a regular PGPM.
