NALSAR University of Law offers education in the field of Law at UG, PG, PG Diploma, Doctorate and Post Doctorate level. At UG level university level offers BA LLB, while at PG level university offers LLM and MBA in different disciplines.

University also offers P.hD at Doctorate level. PG Diploma is also offered by the university in four different disciplines.

Admission to NALSAR University of Law is done through proper state/ National level examination and counseling process:

  • For admission to the UG level BA LLB program, the candidate must have completed a 10+2 level examination from a recognized university and have to qualify the CLAT examination.
  • While for LLM- P.hD, candidates must obtain a Master’s Degree from any recognized University and have passed the Company Secretary Examination or final examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), New Delhi are eligible.
  • For MBA, graduates of any discipline with at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized institute/university and candidates appearing in the qualifying exam (Final Year) are eligible to apply.
  • A candidate who is seeking admission for an MBA program can apply in accordance with the score of NALSAR Management Entrance Test (N-MET)/ CAT/ XAT/ GMAT/ GRE/ C- MAT.
  • For the P.hD program, the candidate must have passed the PG level program in a related field and can apply through NET/SET/GATE/GPAT.
  • The application forms for all courses can be submitted through online mode only. Candidates can visit the official website of the university.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate shall have an LL.M. Degree from any recognized University securing not less than ‘B+’ grade or an aggregate of 55% marks or its equivalent.
  • However, this condition is relaxed to 50% marks or its equivalent in case of candidates belonging to SC / ST / Persons with Disability.

Selection Process

  • All the candidates should appear for admission tests except those candidates who have qualified UGC NET / JRF, SLET / M.Phil as per the Regulations.
  • All the candidates who have cleared the admission test, as well as those who were exempted from appearing for it, are required to attend an interview before the Research Committee
  • All the candidates who have cleared the admission test, as well as those who were exempted from appearing for it, are required to submit a preliminary proposal of 1000 words including the hypothesis and the statement of the problem. The interview will be on the research methods and survey of the literature.
  • All research proposals including the preliminary proposals will be screened through the anti-plagiarism software. If the percentage of plagiarism for any proposal exceeds 15% then the candidates will not be called for the interview.
  • All candidates whose proposals are shortlisted for approval shall be required to present their research proposal to the Research Committee. Subsequent to this 2 presentation, the Committee shall either register the proposal or seek its resubmission in accordance with suggested modifications.
  • Candidates who have cleared the admission test and the interview and also completed the Research Methodology course shall be given two more opportunities to re-submit their proposal on the basis of the recommendation of the Research Committee.

  • Candidates will have to download the application form from the official website of the university and submit it upon completion. The application fee can be paid online as well as offline methods.
  • For online payment, candidates can use Debit/ Credit Card or Net banking while offline payment can be made through a Challan which will be generated on the official website. Foreign nationals or NRIs can pay the application fee via Demand Draft which must be attached to the application form.

Ques. What kind of hardships do students suffer in top law colleges like NLSIU, Nalsar or NUJS?

Ans. One of my friends studied at NUJS. According to her, hardships have varied reasons from academics to personal. The Cases/readings are worth easily 500 pages every day, preparing summaries/case briefs, Tutorials and then projects, presentations, vivas, and the tiring final semesters all comprise the academic hardships. Due to internships, you will miss your vacations. Internships are a temporary glimpse into what life will be like. After getting the grind to excel and to get placed / PPOs, some students suffer from existential crises, emotional upheavals, urge for infinite sabbaticals, etc.  The burden of studies and placements takes a toll on your personal life.  Case briefs become a reason for discord rather than unity.  The healthy competition suddenly gets replaced by a rat race.  Lastly, all the things like hobbies, extra-curricular, etc. disappear. But even after all the hardships, it still is the best time of a student’s life at NLSIU.Read more

Ans. My best friend was in the science stream and took admission as a B.Tech student in IIT Kharagpur, but afterward, he prepared for Law for 3 months and got through. He's an advocate today.  It is absolutely possible to prepare for the exam in such a short period. Just maintain the balance and if you could, devote more time for preparation. Strategic time management and discipline are what you need.  Work on the derivations in Physics and concepts. Read current affairs in between and this will be a good way to work in balance.Read more

Ans. NALSAR is situated nearly 35 km from Secunderabad city. The classes are conducted from 9 AM-5 PM every day. Apart from this, you can choose late hours for tutorials and projects. The seniors preferably choose late night timings.  Being a day scholar, you might be able to attend a few morning lectures some days after covering huge distances. However, it is difficult to be present for all of them as guest lectures happen on weekends usually. One of my seniors was a local himself and he preferred to stay on the campus on weekdays. Going out can be hectic and you need permission from the warden. It will be tiresome for you to travel to the campus and back again at home. It will be practically impossible for you as a day scholar.Read more

Ans. Cracking CLAT and converting NALSAR is different but both are interrelated. First, let us discuss CLAT. The new pattern of the exam comprises five specified areas: English Language Logical Reasoning Quantitative Techniques Legal Reasoning Current Affairs including General Knowledge It is a two-hour test focused on the comprehension skills, reasoning skills and, abilities of candidates. You can either opt for a coaching institute or choose to prepare all by yourself but you will have to keep practicing dedicatedly. Buy a good CLAT preparation book, appear for as many mock tests as you can. Always solve sample papers with a timer, this will give you an essence of the d-day. Only good scores can help you secure a seat at NALSAR; there is no magic spell. The competition is very high here. Just like the top rankers of IIT JEE Advanced make it to the top-ranked IITs, the same is the case with NALSAR.  The higher the score, the higher is the chances of converting NALSAR.Read more

Ans. CLAT is all about percentile and not the percentage. It is not about how much you score but how much you score when compared to all other aspirants that appear in the entrance exam along with you. For NALSAR, the cut-off is between 130 to 140 marks out of 200 for the general category. If you manage to be in the top 120 ranks in the country, your seat is secured at NALSAR. If the difficulty of the exam is easy then you expect the cut-off to be a bit relaxed. You can expect it to be between 170-185.Read more
