3.2 How to Apply?
BHU BFA Course Highlights
- Banaras Hindu University offers BFA courses as a full-time regular course for a minimum duration of 4 years under the Faculty of Visual Arts.
- BHU charges INR 3,520 annually for its BFA course.
- A total of 50 seats are available for the program.
- The varsity offers various merit-based and need-based scholarships to BFA students.
BHU BFA Eligibility Criteria
Candidates interested in the BFA course of Banaras Hindu University should satisfy the below-mentioned eligibility criteria:
- Candidates need to pass their 10+2 examinations or equivalent with an aggregate of 50% marks.
- Candidates must also appear for the CUET UG entrance test.
- Candidates applying shall not exceed 22 years of age at the time of admission.
BHU BFA Admission Criteria
Candidates seeking admission to BFA must clear the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) conducted by NTA. Candidates are required to opt for Section II : Fine Arts/Visual Arts in the CUET UG exam. Those who will not appear Section II Fine Arts/Visual Arts, will not be considered for admission in BHU. The selection will be based on the marks obtained in the CUET exam.
How to Apply for BHU BFA?
Candidates applying for BFA in BHU are required to apply for the CUET on the official website of NTA. The application process for CUET is as follows:
- Candidates must visit the official CUET website - cuet.samarth.ac.in.
- Upon opening the website candidates will find the ‘Register’ tab, they must click on it.
- After reading and understanding the information provided, candidates must hit the ‘Proceed’ button.
- After this, candidates will be directed to the application form. Candidates must fill in the required details carefully.
- After filling the necessary details candidates will have to upload important documents such as signature, photograph, marksheet, etc. Candidates must upload all the required documents.
- Candidates need to pay the application fee at the time of submitting the form or else the Online Application Form will not be considered.
- After submitting the fee, candidates print out the form and save a hard copy for future references.
- Candidates can login to their portals for any new updates, college cutoffs and so forth.

BHU BFA Program Structure
- Curriculum: BFA course curriculum is divided into two parts:
- Part I: Preparatory Course
- Part II: Main Course (with specializations)
In order to be promoted to the Main Course, students shall pass the Preparatory course. The preparatory course will be of 1-year duration and the Main course will be of 3 years duration. During the first year of the Preparatory course, the student will learn to acquire the technical skills necessary for a career in any of the Visual Arts.
- Minimum Pass Percentage: Below mentioned are the details:
- Pass marks in each Theory Paper: 35% of Maximum Marks
- Practical: 50% in each practical including sessional
Passing in a Practical will be decided on the basis of marks including sessionals of that Practical Paper.
- Course and Examinations: Candidates with the minimum required attendance percentage and candidates who filled up examination form in time are eligible for appearing in the final examinations. Candidates with attendance below 25% are not eligible for re-admission. Such candidates will be required to appear for a fresh entrance test. Students promoted to a Part II course will be allotted specializations which will be made strictly on the basis of their performance in the relevant subjects in the Part I course. Candidates who pass in Part II examinations are eligible for promotion to Part III Class. Candidates who qualify for all three years’ courses will be eligible for promotion to fourth year.
- Common Courses: History of Visual Arts and Design is offered as a common course in the first year of all specializations of BFA. Below tabulated are the details:

- Syllabus: Each academic year comprises two theory papers. Paper I is History of Arts & Design the syllabus for which is common to all specializations and Paper II is Material & Methods. Practicals are conducted at the end of each semester as well

BHU offers many scholarships to its students on the basis of their academic performance, merit, financial background, category, etc. Some of the scholarships offered are mentioned below:
- Merit-based Scholarships
- Financial Aid to students belonging to poor economic background
- Scholarships through BHU Management Alumni Association
- Financial aid through Students’ Welfare Fund scheme
- Physically Handicapped students can get a one-time grant of INR 4000 for their entire course duration. This is awarded to a maximum of 25 students.
