You need to appear in the CAT exam. Any percentile over 90%ile with a sectional of 70 70 70 cleared will fetch you a call from MDI Gurgaon. However, to convert core, 96+ is a safe score for non-engg and 98.5+ for GEM. After you get a shortlist, you'll have to appear and fill out a form which MDI-G will send and you can edit your details there. Further, you'll get a PI date. Results will be announced sometime in May.

A candidate must appear for CAT or GMAT to get admitted to MDI, Gurgaon. The average batch percentile in cats stays around 98 each year, although there are exceptions. A candidate must have a minimum of 50% in graduation and 12th to be eligible for admission. It is after that the CAT percentile along with the specific criteria of the institution for the year determines whether a candidate will receive a call or not for an interview. The application form can be found on the website of the institution, and the admission process is smooth, as all the information is relayed from time to time through mail, either by the college office or the student-run admission committee. The college doesn't have any reservation policy.

Admission:

I applied to MDI Gurgaon through their website way back in 2021. The application fee was Rs. 3000. It usually closes a day or two before the CAT exam every year. I recieved a shortlist from MDI once the CAT 2021 results were declared. The mode of communication was either mail or their website. I was supposed to submit relevant proofs on their portal before the PI. I appeared for the PI process and my interview lasted not more than 6 minutes. On 13th May 2022, I recieved an offer letter for all the three programs offered at MDI through CAT.

Admission:

I took the CAT exam in November 2021 and scored 94.49 percentile. I received a shortlist from MDI around mid-February. The applications opened before CAT and fees were around 1000. The PI date I had was for 2nd April 2022. An improvement I would have liked to see is proper and clear communication of dates and prior dissemination of information.

Ques. Should I go for MDI Gurgaon, if I am already earning 7lpa keeping in mind the fees, and are the placements good enough to cover my opportunity cost for the 2 years?

● Top Answer By Prathmessh Todkar on 21 Feb 23

If you are already earning a salary as high as INR 71 LPA, I don’t think an MBA from MDI Gurgaon will do you any good. If you have decided on going for an MBA nevertheless, target the top B Schools like IIM A, IIM B, IIM C, XLRI, FMS, or IIM L. Choosing MDI for MBA is recommended only if you have offers from average B Schools like new IIMs, SPJIMR, NITIE, etc.  So first you need to get maximum calls from the top B Schools only then can you make a wise and informed decision....Read more

Ques. Can I be converted into MDI Gurgaon with 95 percentile in CAT 95 percentages in 10th and 12th and 80 in B Tech with an average GDPI round?

● Top Answer By Harleen Sethi on 07 Mar 23

To start with, around 2,00,000 candidates appeared for the CAT exam. This means that for every percentile, there are about 2000 people. Now, let's say that your percentile is 95, which implies that the 5 percentile is more than yours. In other words, approximately 10000 candidates have scored better than you in the CAT exam. Suppose that 2000 candidates did not apply for MDI, which leaves us with 8000 candidates. Looking at your good scores in 10th, 12th, and graduation, you are better than at least 4000 candidates out of the remaining 8000. So, the number of candidates left now is 4000 . In comparison, IIMs and private/government colleges like SP Jain, FMS, etc., there are around 1500 and 1000 seats available, respectively, in the general category, taking BLACKIS seats into consideration. Assuming that they all choose colleges other than MDI, the probable candidates left for MDI with profiles better than yours would be 4000-(1500+1000) = 1500. Now, the number of seats available in MDI is approximately 350 . Considering the average GDPI, the probability of your selection in MDI would be 350/1500 = .23333. So, you have a 23.3% chance of getting selected for MDI....Read more

Ques. What is the admission process and eligibility for the MDI Gurgaon?

● Top Answer By Dishant Verma on 07 Mar 23

To get admission into Management Development Institute (MDI), the first step is to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) exam. You are eligible to write CAT if you have a recognized bachelor's degree (or professional degree like CA, CS, or ICWA) and have scored an aggregate of 50% (45% for SC/ST and PWD students). Even students in their final year of a bachelor's degree can write the CAT exam. The admission process at MDI consists of two stages. In the first stage, candidates are shortlisted for interviews based on their CAT score. In the second stage, a Personal Interview (PI) is conducted, and the final selection list is made based on the CAT percentile, Personal Interview, and Application score, which includes X, XII, Academic Diversity, Gender Diversity, and Work Experience. The weightage for the CAT score in the final selection is 55% , which means a good CAT score boosts the chances of getting selected for the MBA program at MDI. To help you prepare for CAT, MDI offers free resources that can help you understand their pedagogy better, such as three free CAT mocks, one test on each topic (VARC, DILR, Quant) every day, the formula PDFs for all Quant topics for CAT, around 25 solved previous papers of CAT, and a CAT Percentile Predictor. If you are aspiring to get into MDI, it is important to score well in CAT and prepare well for the Personal Interview. ...Read more

Ques. What kind of profile is needed to get into FMS Delhi and MDI Gurgaon?

● Top Answer By Darshika Tondon on 10 Jan 23

Actually, there is no such thing as academic weightage in FMS, but MDI gives academics weightage. To get a call from MDI, you must score higher than 98.2x for FMS and 95.5x percentile. FMS is part of Delhi University, and its tuition is significantly lower than that of MDI. FMS fees are around 20-21k, whereas MDI fees are around 28 lakhs, which is much higher than FMS. FMS and MDI both give sectional cutoff weightage. If your academics are strong, it will benefit MDI, but FMS does not give academics weightage.GDPI considers extracurricular activities, work experience, and any other achievement....Read more

Ques. Is it better to join NMP at MDI Gurgaon or continue with your double figures salary package?

● Top Answer By Devi Prasad Biswal on 23 Feb 23

MDI EMBA is definitely a good choice if you want to pursue EMBA for Acquiring knowledge To start your own business  If you are joining the course on a sabbatical  But if you are here just for placement within India, then go for ISB only. It’s sad to admit that even today Indian Corporates haven’t understood the importance of EMBA as most companies prefer MBA graduates only. They specifically enquire if their MBA program was a 2-year program or a regular MBA. But ISB’s 1-year executive Management Course along with ISB brand name has been deemed equal in importance by the Indian Corporates to a full-time 2 year MBA. This is despite the fact that many students of the regular MBA program have 3-5 years of experience which is not uncommon even amongst many of the 2-year MBA programme students. EMBA from any other Institute is considered as candidates with a lot of experience which is not true in all the cases....Read more

Ques. How much percentile is required for admission in MDI, JBIMS or FMS?

● Top Answer By Anisha Mukhija on 20 Feb 23

My answer does mention the required percentile for each of the B Schools you mentioned. But before I proceed I would like to shed light on the fact that the CAT percentile is not the only factor that determines your admission into a B School. There are other factors you need to work on like academic background, work experience, and GD-PI. MDI The college offers PGDM admissions on the basis of CAT and GMAT scores. The expected CAT percentile is around 93-95 and the GMAT score is 680+. Apart from this, the candidates are expected to have above average academic records, work experience and WAT. JBIMS  The institute accepts CAT, MH-CET, and GMAT. The percentile cutoff for the General Category  CAT: 95 MH-CET: 99.97 GMAT is accepted only for NRIs. FMS Delhi This institute is well known for its extremely low fees and the null weightage given to past academics. Thus admissions are based on the CAT percentile for which the cutoff is very high and GD-PI. The CAT percentile can be around 98.3 It is important to note that CAT should not be the only factor to consider while preparing for admission. Interview and GD rounds should also be given equal importance in addition to work experience....Read more

Ques. I am from Delhi. I am earning 7 LPA from a reputed company in Bangalore. Will it be a good decision to drop the job for an MBA from MDI Gurgaon? Why?

● Top Answer By Deepal Sharma on 22 Feb 23

I will highly recommend you to go for MDI Gurgaon as the opportunities that will open up to you are vast. You will get to explore an altogether different world. The main reasons why one should take MDI Gurgaon are If you stay at your current job and consider the raise you will get in 2 years, your salary will be 10-12 LPA in 2 years whereas after MBA your salary will start from at least 14 LPA which is a major difference. Working at your current company will leave you with the tag of a normal engineer whereas the MBA tag will be a game changer in your career. The experience at MDI itself will enable you to learn so many things and lead to overall personality development which will not be possible if you continue with your current job. So joining MDI for an MBA is definitely a good choice....Read more

Ques. Can someone brief me with the profiles (academics/cat percentile/work ex) of the people that made it into MDI Gurgaon?

● Top Answer By Avi Gupta on 23 Feb 23

There is no specific profile that is able to make it into MDI Gurgaon. Some are able to make it into MDI even with the 94 percentile and some are not able to get even with the 98 percentile. It’s the personal interview and GD round that comes into play here. The ones with lower percentiles usually have exceptionally good communication skills. The ones that make it into MDI with high percentile usually have decent work experience and profile.  But for MBA-IM there are many with mid-94–95 percentiles and decent profiles. The conclusion is that you either need High CAT score Or Excellent profile Or A very good GDPI score  A rich blend of the three increases your chances of getting into MDI Gurgaon drastically....Read more
