Is it worth to join in IIM Nagpur? How far it is comparable with old IIMs? How about ROI there

RC
Richa Choudhary Posted On : January 17th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur (2022)

Let’s compare IIM Nagpur with the older IIMs generally. IIM Nagpur lacks in the following aspects

  • Permanent Campus
  • Permanent faculty
  • Good number and standard of peers

But what’s amazing is that these shortcomings don’t bring down their worth even a bit. It has more merits than demerits. Some include

  • IIM Ahmedabad’s mentorship brings in the best faculties and helps maintain a learning environment.
  • Various industry interaction programs are held to inculcate management skills and live experiences
  • It enjoys a good location advantage as it attracts companies from around the country
  • The Foreign Exchange Program provides excellent exposure to the international corporate world
  • Lower fees compared to other IIMs
  • The hostel and infrastructure facility are at par with that of other IIMs.

Coming to the ROI, IIM Nagpur definitely excels at this one. This is because its fees are lower than other IIMs while the packages offered are almost similar. At the end of the day what matters is that despite being a new IIM it has grown leaps and bounds and it is expected to do more in the future.

What books should I read for making an impression on the panelist of IIM Ahmedabad?

AJ
Arshit Jain Posted On : December 23rd, 2022
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (Graduated 2020)

Read books to learn something new and interesting, not to make an impression during the interview. Something that can be added to your knowledge base. If you read to impress the panel, you'll be more concerned with completing the number of books than with gaining a deeper understanding of the context, which can defeat the purpose of reading entirely. Keep in mind that some people can read quickly and with great comprehension. It could be a lifelong hobby for them. Maintain your current pace.

In terms of books, there are some common genres that can be good conversation topics during interviews, such as history, politics, innovation, literature, and so on, but read what interests you. Even if you're reading simple books like Harry Potter, it's fine as long as you can answer some good questions about what you've learned from the characters, incidents, or the book as a whole. Do read about the author and his/her other works as well. You will be questioned about other works by the same author or similar books that are available. Make sure you can explain why you chose a specific genre.

How difficult is the GD-PI round at IIM Ahmedabad? What exactly happened and how did you prepare for it refer to the details?

JT
Jennifer Thomas Posted On : December 23rd, 2022
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

Yes, it is extremely competitive, particularly in the GD at IIM Ahmedabad. You would now have WAT (Written Analysis Test).

You should prepare for GD by reading 3 to 4 topics per day, reading magazines and newspapers, using the internet, and taking notes in a notebook. Draw diagrams and try to construct a thought structure for each topic. This approach should be useful unless and until you are a voracious news reader/consumer. And, yes, keep a physical notebook. Prepare all common questions for PI, such as Why MBA, Tell Me Something About Yourself, and so on. Perform some mock interviews. If you can get your hands on some alumni, conduct mock interviews with them.

For all call-getters, IMS organizes an Achievers' Workshop (with some consent to claim your credentials, if you get selected). Mock interviews are conducted by IIM (including IIMA) alumni during the IMS workshop. Mock interviews are essential; conduct at least three to four over the course of a month to improve your interview skills. Do your own soul-searching and plan your responses before the mocks. Structure implies having a reason for saying what you said.

What are the fields in which I can go for a summer internship at IIM Ahmedabad?

I
Inayat Posted On : December 22nd, 2022
Former Summer intern at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

You can intern in any of the fields offered by IIM Ahmedabad. Most of the time, the professor won't expect you to be exceptionally knowledgeable in business or finance. Still, you can assist them with a lot of analysis based on statistics, sales, and advertisements.

If writing is your strength, for example, you might search for an internship that also involves editing and literature review. It doesn't really matter what field you work in because all you would be doing is working with written texts.

Who gives a higher placement package: NLSIU Bangalore or IIM Ahmedabad?

KG
Kamakshi Gupta Posted On : December 22nd, 2022
Finance professional

NLSIU Bangalore offers campus placement for its five-year flagship law degree program. IIM Ahmedabad offers campus placement for postgraduate management students. As IIM Ahmedabad is a post-graduate institution, one can assume that the pay package will be significantly higher.

Furthermore, the applicant and student pool at IIMA would be far more diverse than that of NLSIU. They will have mastered and will exhibit a higher, broader range of skill sets. As a result, IIM Ahmedabad placement packages will be dynamic and more competitive.

Which is the best among IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta for finance?

KP
Konark Pandey Posted On : December 12th, 2022
PGP Placement Coordinator, IIM Calcutta, 2014-15

Without second thoughts, IIM Calcutta is the finance capital of India. People might think my opinion is biased but in reality, it is based on facts and its reputation today. Some factors that justify its fame in the finance sector are as follows:

  • Location: The nearness to reputed Institutions well connectivity is indeed the most remarkable thing about IIMC. The superior faculty renowned for Economics and Business Policies add to its worth.

  • First mover advantage - This has helped IIMC to gain critical mass quickly. The senior alumni took over notable positions in the industry. Also

  • Then the constant hard work to sustain its position - it overcame periodic economic crises and always strove to supply high-performing management professionals who could thrive in such situations.

  • Being one of the oldest institutes, it enjoys a strong alumni network.

  • Consistency: IIMC was consistent in its efforts to gain fame and climb the ladder. It overcame economic crises and was always able to supply high-performing management professionals irrespective of the dire situations.

All this has rightfully made IIMC the finance capital of India and it's a fact not an opinion.

Do people having 2-3 years of work experience doing PGPs at IIM Ahmedabad get decent packages or bigger packages than freshers?

RJ
Rojan Jain Posted On : December 13th, 2022
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (Graduated 2020)

Whether people with and without work experience are offered different packages actually depends on the sector and scenario.

For example during the Summer Internship, candidates of a specific sector (Consulting, Marketing) everyone is offered the same package except for a few companies that ask for experienced candidates only. People with around 20 months of experience are eligible for Laterals Process.

Sometimes only within a particular sector, do people with work experience get better jobs than people with no experience.

But during Finals process, there are usually no distinctions between a person with work ex and a fresher

How good is IIM Lucknow as compared to IIM A, B, C, and ISB for Consulting and Network Building?

SZ
Saher Zehra Posted On : January 16th, 2023
Former PhD Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)

In India, IIM Lucknow is worth far more than ISB, particularly in MNCs and finance/marketing jobs.

The talk of a consulting and network-building pedigree revolves more around their flagship PGPX program and their tentacles in Microsoft and Cisco, both of which recognize the limited role of an MBA in their industry and provide well-defined jumps to ISB graduates back on campus. In the last 2-3 years, IIM Lucknow has done fairly well in global placements, and the sky is the limit for the right student.

It is clear that your decision should be motivated by your prospects of performance at either campus and should be carefully considered.

It is true that those who can balance pressures and perform consistently have an advantage when it comes to placements on campus. Also, mobility in the industry should matter without the help of your b-school label and should be about your performance on the job in making friends. Students from each campus meet everyone on an equal footing in the industry.

Only if you accepted a different field in your campus placement or were assigned a backroom job will you face unequal pressure, as neither pedigree allows you much mobility.
