JMC through my lenses

Remarks :

Delhi University has many great colleges and 2 of them are not fully affiliated with Du and hence have a slightly different procedure from the rest one of these 2 colleges is JMC The admission procedure was easy and there were no entrance exams for the 2020 batch. The admission process at JMC follows these main steps for General Category under which I got my admission: • Filling up the university form from Du Portal • Completing the University’s registration process • then fill up the college’s individual online admission form and register with the college itself from the JMC portal • Application fee: 250 • 2020 intake started in June Eligibility of the course • JMC’s criteria for calculating the best four combinations is separate. • The criteria include English as a compulsory subject • the three other subjects can be chosen from the list given by the college • 10+2 (preferably with Psychology) • Cutoff of 90% Improvements can be: • Update/notification system

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this course because of my interest in psychology. And the curriculum of the course is very vast. The ratio between student and faculty is well maintained as there are 2 groups divided in each section for practicals and for theory the class is divided into 2 sections of around 30 students each. And there is 1 teacher for each subject and practical. The faculty is actually a mix some have PhDs and good experience in the field and the majority of the teachers have good teaching methods which are well grasped by students but on the downside BA Programme students are given new and less experienced teachers than BA Hons students. There are 2 main exams per year 1st being midterms in the month of December and 2nd end terms in the month of April both of which are relatively easy to pass but it's difficult to score excellent marks because of the scoring system for 65% and above attendance, difficult checking of papers, and difficulty getting full marks in internals.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fees at JMC are a little more than the rest of the colleges at Du but it's fair because they provide better infrastructure, services and opportunities and there had been no such implementation of a fee hike at our college for our batch as of now. Course fee per yr is around: 25,000 There were no scholarships, financial assistance and job that I got from JMC as a bachelor student in General Category

Campus Life :

The campus life at JMC is quite appreciated by all as there are small events happening for every celebration and has the most number of societies to choose from which and most of them are quite active and arrange fundraisers and exciting events which facilities students to indulge in extracurricular activities and the crowd of JMC Is one of the best! Montage is our annual event which happens during the month of Feb and was last held in 2020 because of covid but it might come back soon. The classrooms are very well made and kept clean with 2 types of boards black and white and big and open windows and high ceilings and big enough to not have cramped up chairs and desks. There are many sports teams and are given amazing opportunities as well as routine training.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because I was from PCM (science) background in 12th board and I literally wanted to shift in the course of the art. And science students always look for what best subject in art which is ECONOMICS and we choose this. And the second reason is Economics is something challenging and It provides you to think bigger and know about the money and market. So these are the reason I selected this course. My class has 40 students and except for the Micro teacher, No one teaches very well. We are the first batch of CUET and we just got approx. 3 months to prepare for the semester with an increase in the subject. So that is always hard when you are getting experimented with new things.

Placement Experience:

Students from 2nd year or 5th semester are eligible for pre-placement offers. However, 1st-year students are eligible for internship opportunities only. Around 40 companies visited campus with their placement offers for Bcom. Hons, Bcom, B.A Hons Economics, & some BSc courses. Companies included some Big4 companies like KPMG, Deloitte, E&Y, Wipro, HCL & many more. My plan after getting the degree is to go for MBA or MA in Economics.

Students become eligible from the 6th sem to sit for placements. Companies offering 6 lac to 37 lac visit the campus every year. I was placed in a multinational company with a very good package. People from stats maths and eco courses have higher chances of placement though.

Placement Experience:

From the first year onwards we are eligible for internship opportunities by internship cell. During our 6th sem, we are eligible for job interviews. The placement cell is working hard to review their work in a well-mannered form but still, they lag in bringing big companies to college for on-campus placement drives. Companies like byjus, Genpact, etc. came for placements and they offer full-time jobs for 4-6 lacs package varying from the post they offer. The highest package could go up to 7-8 lacs and on average it's 2 lacs. They offered a various range of profiles to get into. The percentage should be more than 65% at least to get the final placement done smoothly. Plans for graduation are going for higher students in this subject only who want to have a PhD degree.

Course Curriculum Overview:

All faculty members were helpful throughout the course and encouraged me to excel in other domains as well. But some teachers just didn't care about the students and were attending classes just for the sake of it. My college was a girl college and there were some male and more female faculty members. Exams were conducted according to the academic calendar released by the college before the start of the semester.
