Is CUSAT better than SRM for placement purposes?

It depends on the branch or department you are choosing in CUSAT and SRM. Here is the highlight of the recent placement statistics for the institutes. But if you are looking to make your career in Civil, EEE or EC, Mechanical then SRM is better than Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). One of my friends studies at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). According to him, although CUSA has better students than SRM, no private companies come for recruitment at the campus for core branches. In SRM big companies come for placement. You also can sit for placement drives of companies. Some of the recruiters of SRM are L&T, Pallonji, Shapoorji, etc. You also get to face competition in SRM. If you are willing to join CUSAT core branches then you have to look out for off-campus placements or can also prepare for GATE, UPSC, or IES.

What is the placement record of cusat?

One of my friends studies in the School of Engineering, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), so I will cover all the branches of the School of Engineering. Civil Engineering: There is not 100% placement. Only half of it gets placed in companies like TCS, Byju’s, which are not core companies. KITCO once arrived for campus recruitment in CUSAT but didn’t select Civil or Mechanical Engineering. Mechanical Engineering: Mechanical Engineering students get placed in companies like TCS, Byju’s, etc. Some core companies come such as CEAT, L&T, but students hardly get recruited in them. In the 100 students batch, only 10-15 students get placed. Electrical Engineering and EC students also didn’t get good placement, just like Mechanical and Civil Engineering students. Except for Ship Technology, CS, Safety and Fire, IT, all the main branches of engineering give placements to only 15% of the students. Category CUSAT Recruiters KSEB, Amazon, IBM, TCS, Godrej, Infosys, Vedanta, ONGC, Reliance, Verizon, L&T, CEAT, Infosys, LTTS, Siemens Highest Package INR 15 LPA Average Package INR 4.7 LPA Lowest Package INR 3 LPA Out of 40 students only 15 students get placed, in which 90% of students do not get into core companies. Therefore, the placement record of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) is not good. So if you are only enrolling in CUSAT to get good placements, then it would not be a good idea.

Which company visits CUSAT at the time of placement?

Since some of my friends studied at CUSAT, Let me share their insight on the companies that tend to visit CUSAT at the time of the placement. In the CS background, the IT companies like Infosys and TCS visit the campus every year. For the mechanical department, CEAT and KITKO companies have visited. The college provides better placement opportunities for CS and IT Branches. The fire and safety department of the college gets huge compensation due to the huge demand for fire engineering and less supply for fire engineering in India. For CS and IT branches the students get placed with good packages from INR 10-20 LPA. You just need to prepare well for placements should score well in your CGPA. The placement percentage is low in the Mechanical branch, EEE, and Civil branches. You may not get core companies but you may get jobs in other sectors.

How good are the placements of CUSAT?

How good are the placements for B.Tech in IT students at CUSAT?

If you are looking for placements for CS jobs, a lot of branches from engineering are eligible for it. These include IT, EC, CS, and even EE sometimes. These branches are included from both campuses, CUSAT and CUSEK. Many students from CUSEK also travel to CUSAT to attend placements. A few students from M.Tech and MCA are also eligible to appear for these placements. The criteria for eligibility differ from company to company but if you have a CGPA of 8.3 (75%) and no other backlogs. You can appear for almost every company that visits the college for placements. Once you have qualified past the eligibility criteria, you will realize that there is not much distinction between IT and CS branch students. Most companies end up treating all students equally. If you are looking to target specific areas for your development, programming skills, and interview prepare the ones you should focus on. Other than this, your class rank, CGPA as well other past backlogs will not matter if you ace the first two. Next, if you are looking to rank ease of placements branch-wise and package size, computer science is the leader. This is followed by IT, SF and EC at a tie, EE, and lastly ME and CE tying off again. Categories IT at CUSAT Highest CTC 29 LPA (Cisco) Average CTC 6-8 LPA (TCS Digital, Nissan, Soti, IBM, and Tally) Lowest CTC 3-3.8 LPA (TCS, Wipro, EY and Infosys) In my opinion, securing placements for CS is not that difficult. Students with pending backlogs also are placed so you do not have much to be worried about. Just do your best.

How is safety and fire engineering in CUSAT and what is the average package for this branch?

The Fire and Safety Engineering Department is one of the best at CUSAT. As one of my friends studied there, I might be able to share some details which can help you with your question. This department has got good infrastructure along with good faculties. About 90% of the students of this branch get a good offer for a package. But this field is limited to getting a job, as most of the companies recruiting on-campus look for other colleges. The competition will be less as very few colleges offer this kind of branch. CUSAT is the best fire and safety branch in India. Categories B.Tech in Safety and Fire Engineering at CUSAT No. of seats 60 Placement Percentage 90-100% Highest CTC 22 LPA Average CTC 6-7 LPA Course Fee 3.01 lakh Recruiting Companies DRDO, ISRO, ONGC, GAIL, ABS, Reliance, British Safety Council, IOCL, BPCL, etc. You will get placement with the package of INR 8-10 LPA initially for PSU in the sector of Oil. The placements are mostly in the field of public sector units like IOCL, GAIL, and ONGC.

How is MBA curriculum and college life at CUSAT, is it hard to get admitted? How are the placements for previous batches?

CUSAT is worth spending your 2 years of MBA. School of Management Studies, CUSAT is one of the most reputed B-schools in Southern India, therefore considered a very good place to study. The campus is quite large and welcoming along with the quality education. The college owns an ample amount of well-qualified faculty members, thereby giving you complete knowledge regarding the particular field. The placements earlier were organized for a particular field. But now, there is a single placement cell and a placement officer heading it. This has increased the placement offers for the students. What is the placement and average package of CUSAT?

Some of my friends are from CUSAT. Whatever information I have gathered from them, I will share as this could help you understand the question a bit more. Here are some placement statistics you can consider as far as CUSAT placements are concerned: The quality of students also differs and it has become drastically different from before. The cutoff from the last few years has also gone up by almost half. Some really good companies also visit the institute for placements. These include Oracle, Google, and other e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal. However, you should know that only a few students will qualify through the interview round and secure a job. You will have to be a good programmer and maintain a CGPA of 8.5 at least. Many students don’t do well in interviews if they lack programming skills and do not have that sort of GPA. But, in every case, there is an exception. Some exceptional students are able to crack these interviews and get placed in decent companies with really high packages. For example, back in 2016, a student cracked the IBM interview and secured a pay of INR 36 lakhs per annum. Many other students also have got good placements in off-campus recruitment so you can try that too. How is placements for naval architecture and ship plaining at DoST Cusat?

According to one of my cousin’s personal experiences, Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding is a very innovative course that a student can pursue, therefore get a chance to explore many different things. If you are interested in pursuing DoST CUSAT, then there are ample opportunities that you can get. Not only in terms of education but the college provides an excellent placement to all the students. But at the same time, you should be aware enough to grab the opportunities and work very hard to achieve the targeted career opportunities. There is a group of well-qualified faculty members who prepare you for all your future endeavors so that you can make the best out of yourself. Not only academics but they give you hands-on experience to the particular that is very helpful for you during your placement interviews. The placements are quite decent in which many prestigious companies across the country as well as from many other countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and various other countries participate. But due to the oil crisis, the placements were a little dull during the past one to two years. If we look at the overall placements they are good. Number of students placed 21 Highest CTC offered INR 24 LPA Average CTC offered INR 10 LPA Therefore, we can conclude that the placement opportunities for Naval Architecture and shipbuilding are very attractive to opt for.

Will companies like Google come to CUSAT?

No, companies like Google, Apple, Amazon, etc don’t recruit students from any branch of engineering in CUSAT. Companies like Google recruit students from premier institutes like IITs, NITs, DTU, NSIT, etc only. For institutes like CUSAT, such high-profile job offers cannot be expected on campus. In CUSAT, some of the companies that recruit students every year are Infosys, TCS, Mu Sigma, etc. The type of offers in placement and the packages offered by companies mostly depend on the branch of engineering in CUSAT. Mostly, circuital branches like CSE, IT, and ECE receive the best offers from companies during their in-campus placement. These are some of the key highlights regarding the placement of students in CUSAT, which is decent, but not as good as IITs and NITs.

Cochin University popularly known as CUSAT has conducted its placement drive for the year 2020 and the institute has witnessed a large number of recruiters during its placement drive.

The recruitment process started in August 2020, and around 300 job offers were made to the students of CUSAT. Every year round 60 companies visit for the on-Campus recruitment drive.

The placement opportunities are very good at CUSAT. The best package for B. Tech Computer Science is 7.5 Lakh per annum. Many great companies come here for hiring and pre-placement guidelines are also given. There are many internship opportunities also.

CUSAT provides a minimum one-month gap for doing internships. For us, it was during the 4th semester and 6th semesters. We have official groups for internship details and information. Many companies provide internship opportunities.

I have applied for many off-campus internships and got something around 10K per month and there are many other students who have achieved around 15K per month. I have worked as FullStack Developer and later on moved on to Machine Learning.

From the 6th semester, you can opt for placement interviews here. Also, many MNCs including tata,l&b, TCS, oracle, Vedanta, Gail, Indian oil, federal bank, and a lot more come here for recruitment. The highest lpa currently is 40 lakhs. Overall it has a placement percentage above 60 to 70%.

Internships Opportunities:

You will get opportunities with tech companies and others for internships. I currently h have not updated for a paid internship. They will help you in brushing up on your skills in various fields. I was a campus ambassador intern for Internshala.

MBA from one of the earliest and prestigious B schools in country

Placement Experience:

The placements are excellent compared to peer-level institutes in the state. The highest package has crossed 15 lac per annum. Eighty to ninety percent of the students get placements, and most of them bag more than a single offer as well.

Internships Opportunities:

As I studied way back in 2009 -2011, I am not aware of the present internship opportunities. However, contact details are available at the CUSAT website (cusat.ac.in) and from there they will provide the details for sure.
