The answer to your question depends on the reason why you are willing to pursue an MBA and if the reason is strong enough to go for an MBA at the age of 29 years. See, age should never be a restricting factor especially when it comes to education. But your purpose should be well-defined and crystal clear. Pursuing MBA vaguely just to venture on new opportunities or career options might do you more harm than good. So the primary step in deciding if an MBA at 29 is good or not is to analyze your purpose. If you are changing streams for instance moving to Finance or MC, you need to know that your pay scale might see a new low.

I have another suggestion for you. Why don’t you compare the two programs;

  • Regular 2-year MBA
  • Executive MBA 1-year program

Compare the curriculum and prospects of these two programs. The reason why I suggested to you research the Executive program is that many experienced professionals (almost 95%) prefer the Executive program over the regular program. It suits their needs better.

The 2-year program is suitable only if you are looking for an internship and I Don't think that is the case for you. Moreover, if you consider the major aspects like classroom experience, rigor and placements, the Executive program is far more a viable option in your case. It will also allow you to reap the maximum benefits in less time. So do your part of the research and make an informed decision.

29 is around 4-5 years higher than the average age group of IIM  A/B/C, but you shouldn’t decide against pursuing a management degree just because of this factor. You won’t be treated any differently by your peers or teachers because of your age.

Your placement will depend on your past academic record and your work experience. If you have relevant experience in managerial or business-oriented roles, that can work in your favor. Many recruiting firms look for students with 5+ years of experience for senior profiles. If you have general IT experience, you may need to take jobs with a lower pay scale for the first few years but eventually, the network you build can be worth the investment.

Age is never the primary requirement for learning something new. You can easily go for a 2 year MBA course at IIM Ahmedabad or Calcutta at an age of 29. There are many success stories of people among us who have achieved greater heights even at an older age.

Also this builds up the question that will you receive a good job after completing your MBA and will you be able to compete with the younger graduates to secure a job offer.

The answer is Yes.

Mostly it is seen that the recruiters reject the freshers saying they are way too inexperienced. This sometimes becomes an advantage for students with an experience of working in a competitive environment and under pressure. Consider this to be your asset and show your skills of managing your work in stressful situations.

Institutes like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta most of the time prefer experienced candidates rather than freshers. Even if you do not get a job offer during on-campus placements, there are plenty of opportunities in off-campus recruitment. An IIM A or C tag will definitely land you a job in one of the top companies in India.

So age is definitely not a barrier of sorts, if you get a chance to study in any of the IIMs among A, B and C, you should definitely consider it, and never let go of this opportunity. Because in the long run the experience, skills and degree are the things that matter.
