A friend of mine got CSE at IIT Bombay with a rank of 10k. How is it justified?

The IITs are funded by the Government so it has complete authority to give admission to anyone. The teachers or the students are not the stakeholders in the case of IITs. It is the Government that pays the teachers' salaries and installs the various facilities. The Government is at complete freedom to decide who can come into ITs and who needs a push in the form of the reservation to join ITs. The aspirants know beforehand that the Government has set such rules according to its own discretion. No one is forced to give the exam and you can always choose any other option if you think it’s unfair. Aspirants know that there might be cases where a candidate with 10k or above rank will get admission in contrast to the general cutoff. They still fill out firms in hope of clearing the exam. You are precisely giving a Government Exam and need to follow all the necessary rules. So it indeed is justified if someone with a 10k rank is able to make it into IIT Bombay.

What rank is required in JEE Advanced to get CSE in IIT Bombay?

To get CSE in IIT Bombay, you need a JEE Advanced rank of 60 if you belong to General Category. This rank keeps getting lower every year. If you are certain of studying CSE at IIT Bombay, then start studying without further hesitation. In case you are still not sure, I have a friend's experience that might help you make the decision. He was interested in Mechanical and was not sure about CSE. With a rank of 70, he went for Mechanical Engineering. Now there is a course at IIT Bombay that is compulsory for all freshers. The course comprises the fundamentals of Computer Science. Once he studied that, he became certain that he wanted to pursue CSE instead and requested a branch change. In fact, I know many who changed their branch after becoming aware of their passion and inclinations. So you don’t have to necessarily make a decision right now, and can always avail of the branch change option later on. But make sure to make an early decision. Also if your JEE rank is average then you can always change your branch later on. However, an important thing to keep in mind is that this branch change option is possible only if your first-year CGPA is up to the mark.

To sit for the examination you have to be in 12th class or 12th cleared, then you can fill up the form in September month for the 1st JEE Mains and followed by 2 more chances to clear this JEE Mains in the same year or next year January or march, after clearing this you'll eligible for JEE Advanced than in April you have to fill the form for JEE Advanced and in May or June, you have to appear in the EXAM. On clearing JEE ADVANCED WITH GOOD RANK (0-4000), then only you'll get a good branch/department in this institute otherwise choose other IITs or other lower branches. You'll also be benefited from caste reservation and gender reservation for women. And admission process is so smooth, you'll get a mentor from DAY 1 of your college, even from entry into college.

IIT Bombay offers you the best, but still has scope for improvement - which you can bring about! :)

The course (B. Tech. in Civil Eng.) takes entry only through JEE Advanced paper. Students after 12th (either just after 12th class or after a drop year) give JEE Main, and if they qualify in this, they can sit for JEE Advanced, a merit is formed based on their performance and the branch and seats are filled as per the merit/rank list of JEE Advanced. The details for reservation benefits are clearly mentioned on govt. portals (NTA website), and you can refer there for any further details, which should be available easily. The application form can be found on the official govt. website of NTA (National Testing Agency), the application fee for JEE Main (Attempt 1) is? 1000, for JEE Main (Attempt 2) is? 1000, for JEE Advanced, is? 2900 for 2023.

SJMSOM - IIT Bombay review

The complete admission process was seamless for SJMSOM as compared to other institutes. It starts with appearing for the CAT examination in which we need to score 90 percentile overall and 75 percentile in sectionals to be eligible in the open category ( www.som.iitb.ac.in ). The application forms opened around the first week of January and we applied from the admissions page of SJMSOM for the same. The shortlists were released around mid-February and the interviews were held in the first week of march through an AI-based interactive platform named Gather. We were also allotted PI Buddies who aided us throughout the process.

Walking through the gate of school of management

The course is only eligible for people with a 4-year degree. The application forms could be tracked on the website and telegram groups and the date for application was the 31st of January. The application fee was 1600rs and no reservation benefits were availed by me. The admission process was seamless and on time, and the dates were followed religiously. One recommendation I would have is that they should provide confirmation after acceptance of the offer letter for those who need to withdraw from other colleges.
