Which is better for ChE, IIT BHU or IIT Guwahati?

AG
Aparna Ghosal Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2019)

Both institutions are equally good and reputed so it’s difficult to determine which institute is better. As IIT BHU is an old institution it offers a large alumni base which results in excellent placement. In 2019 a total of 104 students from chemical engineering was employed. The average salary package ranged between 10 LPA to 58.21 LPA. Whereas there was 71% placement for chemical engineering in IIT Guwahati with average placement package 15.5 LPA. IIT BHU is comparatively better in terms of placement.

For research, IIT Guwahati stands out because of its immaculate infrastructure in addition to well-equipped labs, course curriculum, faculties, and methodologies of teaching. In the field of research activities, it is way ahead of IIT-BHU.

Which is better, IIT Guwahati for civil or IIT Bhubaneswar for electrical or electronics & communication?

AS
Alka Singh Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Dual Degree Materials Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2024)

IIT Bhubaneswar is the better option in this case. Civil engineering from IIT Guwahati has less scope as compared to ECE from IIT Bhubaneswar. Although IIT Guwahati is in the category of old IIT’s unlikely IIT Bhubaneswar and also comes at 7th among the engineering colleges in India.

IIT Bhubaneswar offers better placements for electrical and electronics & communication engineering. In 2019, electrical engineering had an 86% placement rate and the average package was around INR 11.44 LPA at IIT Bhubaneswar. At IIT Guwahati there were 77% placements for civil engineering.

If we compare on the basis of streams; Civil Engineering lacks behind ECE. Civil is easier than ECE but the decision depends on your interest and whichever course interests you more should be the first priority.

If you don’t have any particular inclination toward Mechanical Engineering, then Civil Engineering from IIT Guwahati will be the better choice. It is an old IIT and offers good infrastructure, faculty, and a well-developed alumni base.

According to the statistics of recent years, IIT Guwahati Civil Engineering placement statistics are pretty good. Around 80% of the students get placed each year and the average CTC offered to the students of this branch is INR 17.5 LPA.

How does it feel studying at IIT Guwahati?

AS
Anup Sodhi Posted On : March 20th, 2023
Studied at IIT Guwahati

As a student, you can be assured that IIT Guwahati is good enough and it is up to you to perform well. Instead of focusing on what your college can do for you, shift your perspective and think about what you can do for your college. While IITG may not have as many resources as some other IITs like IITB, K, M, and D, it is still worth attending.

At IITG, you can benefit from some excellent professors, optimal resources for every student, good placement opportunities, as well as sports and cultural fests. Don't worry too much, and remember that with hard work, dedication, and effective use of your study time, you can achieve great success. Rather than relying solely on the IIT brand name, aim to make your own mark and make your college proud of your achievements.

Choosing a course to pursue can be an overwhelming process. However, the most important factor to keep in mind is the interest of a student for making the decision. Below are some pointers which can provide some clarity to make a choice between the colleges:

Chemical Science and Technology in IIT Guwahati provides a huge scope for research studies. If you want to pursue a career in FMCG or Chemical industry, CST from IIT Guwahati can be considered as a good choice. Some of the subjects under the course include Spectroscopic Techniques in Chemistry, Petroleum & Petrochemicals, Green Chemistry & Technology, Medicinal Chemistry, etc. The annual fees charged by the college is close to 2,19,350 INR. The total number of students admitted in B. Tech and B. Des. was 561. In the year 2019-20, 71% of the CST branch got placed. The average package offered was close to 11 LPA INR. Around 250 companies visited the campus for final placements. Few of the top recruiters include companies like Coca-Cola, ChemBiotech, and PSUs like IOCL, HPCL, etc.

Civil Engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar provides an opportunity for the students to pursue higher studies as well as opt for government jobs via the GATE exam. Should I choose IIT Bhubaneswar MEC or IIT Guwahati civil?

AJ
Adwait Jain Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar

First of all, it depends on your interest whether you want to pursue engineering in Mechanical or Civil, and only then you can decide the better college. As the engineering branches are different it’s difficult to pick one college over the other.

Comparing the two courses in terms of placements offered last year, we see 83% of the Mechanical branch students got placed in IIT Bhubaneswar with average CTC 11.4 LPA. 77% of the Civil students in IITG got placed last year. The average package offered in IIT Guwahati was around 11 LPA while the highest went up to 39 LPA.

Being the older IIT, the infrastructure of IITG is good and the placements for both the core as well as the non-core sectors are also quite good. IIT Bhubaneswar has been showing good numbers in recent years and is developing gradually.

You can also look for some other options for mechanical other than IIT Bhubaneswar. If you manage to get a good score in Mains, you can look for admission in old NIT where you will get better future opportunities also good placement packages. While IIT Guwahati being an older institute is expected to attract many of the major recruiters from all the sectors and provide good CTC.

So, choose the college based on your branch of interest.

Which is the best, IIT Bhubaneswar (EE) or IIT Guwahati for civil?

RT
Rima Tandon Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2021)

Both the choices IIT Bhubaneswar(EE) and IIT Guwahati(Civil Engineering) have their own significance.

Coming to the specifics, the Electrical Engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar is quite good. The placement stats are also better than most of the new IITs. In the year 2019, around 86% of students got placed from the Electrical Engineering branch. The official average package for the batch 2017 as released by the institute was 8.5 LPA, which is more than a decent package for a fresher. A good number of Core companies, software companies and PSU’s hire Electrical Engineers (EE) from IIT Bhubaneswar. The subjects taught in Electrical Engineering, have their applications in day to day life. Hence this subject always has potential in the future.

Coming to Civil Engineering in IIT Guwahati, the civil branch may not be as lucrative as CS, IT branches. But it does offer some great opportunities. In core engineering and the Pvt sector, there are very few companies that offer decent packages. In 2019 around 77% of students got placed in Civil Engineering. The average package for this branch is around 6.6 LPA to 7 LPA. Hindustan Construction Company, L & T, DLF, Tata Projects, Gammon India are some of the major recruiters for Civil Engineering.

If you intend to join public sector, then Civil is the best branch as there is very less competition compared to other branches. You can go for PSU's through GATE or join Engineering Services. Also if you are strictly after govt. jobs, then you can take civil at IIT Guwahati.
