JEE Main Registration Fee for General/Gen-EWS/ OBC(NCL) boys applying for a single paper is INR 650/-. For girls and SC/ST/PwD/Transgender, there is a 50% relaxation and they have to pay INR 325/- for a single paper. JEE Main Registration 2021 for May session will be open from May 3 – 12, 2021. Candidates can enter their class 12th board exam dates to avoid any kind of date clash. 

Candidates can register for multiple JEE Main sessions at once, while filling JEE Main Application Form, a candidate has to choose the number of sessions he/she wishes to appear and pay fee accordingly. As per JEE Main Eligibility, candidates who have passed Class 12 in 2019, 2020 or appearing in 2021 irrespective of their age are eligible to sit for JEE Main 2021

Eligibility Criteria

Are You Eligible to Fill JEE Main Application Form 2021?

It is imperative to check the JEE Main Eligibility criteria before starting JEE Main Registration since your candidature will be canceled if, at any stage, you’re found ineligible,

  1. Age Limit 

  • There is no age limit for appearing in JEE Main 2021. 
  • Candidates who have passed class 12th  / equivalent examination in 2019, 2020 or appearing in 2021 irrespective of their age can appear in JEE Main 2021.
  1. Number  of Attempts

  • JEE Main candidates can participate in the entrance exam for 3 consecutive years.
  • The exam will be conducted twice a year, candidates may appear in both the sessions.
  • If a candidate sits for both the sessions, it shall be counted as a single attempt.
  1. Educational Qualification

  • Students who passed their XII or equivalent exam in 2019, 2020 or appearing in 2021 are eligible for applying in JEE Main 2021.
  • For B.Planning, the candidates should have passed the qualifying examination with 50 % marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in aggregate of the qualifying examination.
  • It is essential for B.E/ B.Tech applicants to have passed the qualifying examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject.
  • It is essential for B. Arch applicants to have passed the qualifying examination with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry.
  1. Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination

  • Students who passed their XII or equivalent exam in 2019, 2020 or appearing in 2021 are eligible for applying in JEE Main 2021.
  • Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2018 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2022 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE Main 2021.

Step-by-Step Guide to Fill JEE Main 2021 Application Form

Step 1 – JEE Main Registration 2021:

  • Visit JEE Main Official Website –
  • Click on “Apply for JEE(Main) – 2021.

  • Read the instructions, tick the box and select “Click here to Proceed”
  • Application number will be generated after submission of personal details. The application number shall be used for completing the remaining steps of the registration process and for future reference.
  • Fill the Registration Form by Personal Details like Candidate’s name, Mother’s name, Father’s name, Gender, DOB etc.
  • Fill your Contact Details – Address, City name, Email Address, Pin Code, Mobile Number etc. 
  • The candidate is required to choose a password and a security question and enter his/her answer for the same.
  • Candidate’s must note down the security question and answer for future reference.
  • As a final step, candidates need to fill the displayed security pin and click on “Submit”

Step 2 –Complete JEE Main Application Form

  • Candidate can login with the generated application number and created password for completing the Application form. 
  • Aspirants appearing for JEE Main 2021 are required to enter details like Personal Details, Paper name, Exam City Preferences, Question Paper Medium, Educational Details, Parents Income Details etc.
  • Tick the Declaration.
  • After reviewing the details, Click on “Final Submit”

Step 3 – JEE Main Application – Uploading Documents

  • After filling in the online form, candidates are required to scan and upload photograph and signature as per the defined guidelines by NTA. 
  • The recent photograph should be coloured or black/white (but clear contrast).
  • Scanned photograph and signature should be in JPG/JPEG format.
  • Size of scanned photograph should be between 10 kb to 200 kb.
  • Size of scanned signature should be between 4 kb to 30 kb.
  • Application forms with unclear photographs will be rejected. 
  • Please keep 6-8 identical photographs in reserve for use at the time of exam, seat allotment and admission. 
  • Upload the correct Photograph and Signature as the facility for correction in images will not be given.
  • Upload 12th class/equivalent Admit Card/Mark Sheet/ Certificate (size 50kb to 500kb)

Step 4 – Payment of JEE Main Application Fee 2021

  • JEE Main Registration Fee can be paid via Credit/ Debit Card/ Net Banking/ PAYTM/ UPI.
  • Along with the fee, candidates have to pay service/Processing charges per transaction & GST (applicable at 18 %).
  • After successful payment, candidate will be able to print the Confirmation Page. 
  • If the Confirmation Page is not generated after payment of fee then the transaction is cancelled and the candidates have to approach the concerned bank for refund of amount.
  • The candidate has to make another payment/transaction, in case the Confirmation Page is not generated.
  • The candidates are required to check the status of fee payment at NTA websites – and 
  • If the status is ‘OK’ the candidate will be able to take the printout of Confirmation Page.

JEE Main Registration Fee 2021

  • Candidates can select the sessions they wish to appear for and pay the fee accordingly.
  •  This fees, however, is refundable. 
  • If a student is unable to attend any particular session, he/she may apply for a refund.
  • But the candidate will not be able to transfer the registration to another month.
  • The fee refund must also be applied for within the time the application window is opened.

 If the fee payment status is not ‘OK’ the candidates are advised to:

  • In case the fee is paid through credit/ debit/ Net Banking/ PAYTM/UPI and the status shows not OK, it means the transaction is cancelled.
  • Such candidates need to pay the fees again and ensure the fee status as OK. 
  • The amount will be automatically refunded for the cancelled transactions by the concerned banks to the respective accounts. 
Note – Submit only one application form. Multiple applications from one candidate will be rejected. 

Form Correction Window

  • JEE Main Form Correction is a one-time facility for candidates to make changes in the details of the application form.
  • Depending on the changes made, if additional fee payment is required, the final changes will be reflected after the payment is made. C
  • andidates must go through the changes as no further changes shall be allowed in the application form.
  • Also, NTA has opened an image correction window which is exclusively for rectifying any errors in uploading of pictures.

JEE Main Application Form: Instructions For Creating Password 

During the registration, candidate will be required to choose the password and security question. Candidates are required to save their password for future logins. Candidates are advised not to share their passwords with anybody, NTA or NIC takes no responsibility of any kind of misuse of the password. Candidates should remember to log out at the end of their session so that the particulars of the candidate cannot be tampered or modified by unauthorized persons.

Instructions to be kept in mind while creating the password are as follows:

  • Password must be 8 to 13 character long.
  • Password must have atleast one uppercase alphabet.
  • Password must have atleast one lower case alphabet.
  • Password must have atleast one numeric value.
  • Password must have atleast one special character e.g. !@#$%^&*-

How to Reset Password?

In case the password is misplaced by aspirants, the following ways can be used to set a new one:

  • Use Security Question and your answer during form filling.
  • Use verification code sent via text message at your registered mobile number.
  • Use reset link sent via Email at your registered Email address.

How to Apply for EWS Reservation in JEE Main 2021?

NTA has issued a notice declaring applicability of the 10% Economically Weaker Section reservation for candidates applying for JEE Main 2019 and onwards. Hence, candidates belonging to EWS category are advised to mark themselves as such in thr application form. Check JEE Main 2021 Reservation Criteria

Steps to apply for EWS Reservation in JEE Main 2021 are:

  • Visit the official website
  • Look for the Application form link.
  • While filling the form mark yourself as EWS Category.
  • Save the form with the accurate details.

There is no need to upload the supporting document/EWS certificate in the application form. Though it will be required at the time of applying for JEE Advanced 2021

Ques. When will NTA release JEE Main Application Form for April Session?

Ans. JEE Main 2021 Registration window for April session (Phase III) is open from March 25 – April 4, 2021. Candidates can apply at The last date to pay the application fee is April 5, 2021.

Ques. Will JEE Main 2021 Application Window be opened again?

Ans. Yes, JEE Main 2021 Application window will be opened for May 3 – 12, 2021 for JEE Main May session registrations. However, candidates can also apply for JEE Main May session from March 25 – April 4, 2021.

Ques. When will the JEE Main Application Form Correction window be active?

Ques. Is it mandatory to upload Category certificates during JEE Main Registration 2021?

Ques. Can I apply for both B. Arch and B. Planning paper in JEE Main 2021?

Ans. Yes, you can apply for both B. Arch and B. Planning papers. In such a case, the exam duration will be of 3 hours 30 minutes. 

Ques. I had initially applied for only JEE Main  paper 1, but now i want to apply for JEE Main paper 2 as well. Can I make that change?

Ans. Yes. During the JEE Main Form correction window, you can switch between JEE Main paper 1 and paper 2 if you wish, and you can also apply for both papers after the payment of the additional fees even if you had initially applied for only one.

Ques. I am appearing in class XII and I haven’t received my roll number, what should I enter while filling JEE Main Application form?

Ans. It is not mandatory for candidates appearing for Class XII to fill in the roll number, the detail is not mandatory. If it is allotted, you may fill it or leave it empty otherwise.

Ques. My surname in Aadhaar Card is wrongly mentioned, what should I do?

Ans. For this, you will have to file an application at Aadhaar card centre and get it corrected. You can enter the correct surname.

Ques. I can’t upload my image during JEE Main 2021 Registration process. How do I fix this problem?

Ans. If you are unable to upload your image, it is most likely because the size and/or the format of the image you are trying to upload is not as per the specifications given by the NTA. Resize and reformat your image accordingly and then try uploading it again.

Ques. What are the documents required for filling the JEE Main 2021 Application Form?

Ans. The following are a list of documents which are required at the time of filling the JEE Main 2021 application form.

  • Scanned images of photograph, signature and class 12 marksheet (Class 12 hall ticket in case appearing for the exam)
  • Marksheet of class 10 and 12.
  • Category certificates (If applicable)
  • Debit card/Internet banking details for payment of application fees
  • Government provided Photo Identity proof such as Aadhaar, Pan card, Ration card etc.

Ques. How to compress images for uploading the documents for JEE Main 2021 Application Form?

Ans. The images which are to be uploaded in the application form should be of a definite file size and dimension. By following the process given below, you can easily convert any image file into the desired dimension:

  1. Select the image file and right click.
  2. Click on “Open With” and select Paint.
  3. The image will open in Paint window.
  4. Click on the “File” menu in the top left-hand corner of the window.
  5. Select “Properties”.
  6. A small box will open where you can specify/change the width and height of the image. For Photograph it will be 35 mm X 45 mm and for Signature, it will be 80 mm X 35 mm.
  7. Click “OK” and save the image.

Ques. I have forgotten my JEE Main Application Number, what should I do?

Ans. If any candidate forgets the Application Number, they can follow the below steps:

  • Retrieving Application Number: The fields include some validation information like Name, DOB, Fathers name, mothers name.
  • Retrieving Password: Go to the website and select “forgot password”. Choose Security Question & its Answer you opted while filling the application form. Enter the verification code sent via text message to your Registered Mobile No. and submit to retrieve the password.

Ques. What should I do if the fee payment status is “not OK”?

Ans. If the fee is paid through credit/debit card and status is not OK, it means the transaction is cancelled and the amount will, automatically, be refunded to concerned credit/debit card within 7 – 10 days. Therefore, such candidates have to pay the fee once again and ensure the OK fee status.

Ques. Can I pay my JEE Main Registration fee through Demand Draft?

Ans. No, payment of JEE Main application fee by DD will not be accepted. 

Ques. Where will I need application number of JEE Main?

Ans. The application number received at the time of JEE Main Registration will be required at the time of downloading JEE Main Admit Card and to check the results as well.

Ques. What are the reasons for rejection of JEE Application Form?

Ans. Due to the following any one of the reason, the form might get rejected:

  1. An incomplete application form in any respect without uploading photo and signature
  2. An incomplete application form in respect of without fee payment will be rejected
  3. If the face of the candidate in the photograph or signature is unclear in the application, it may be rejected.

Ques. What is the State Code of Eligibility that needs to be entered in JEE Main online form?

Ans. The State Code of eligibility is the code of the state from where candidates have passed class 12 or equivalent qualifying examination. State of Eligibility is not applicable for candidates belonging to Nepal /Bhutan/Foreign/OCI/PIO.

Ques. Is it necessary to put candidate’s name and date in the photograph? Would JEE Main 2021 application form be rejected?

Ans. As per the official guidelines issued by NTA, it is mandatory to mention name and date on the passport sized photograph.

Hi Sri, yes, uploading admit card of class 12th is necessary failing which, your candidature will get cancelled. However, if you have got the admit card at present, you may upload it using form-correction window which will get functional from March 8, 2020.

Hi Shivam, there is no major difference while applying for B.Tech and B.Arch. The only significant difference is that you will have to choose Paper-2 instead of Paper-1 in application form. Also, the exam will be in pen and paper mode.
