What students say about Institute of Home Economics

Likes

  • Talking about the faculty, it is very nice, and the teachers are very kind and helpful.
  • As I mentioned earlier, companies and select NGOs also provide internships at the annual internship fair.
  • There is a fair for placements and internships where you can apply at IHE and get good opportunities. It will help some students in doing internships during the summers. Sometimes it provides a salary, while other times it does not.
  • I feel that the fee structure is a bit high compared to other colleges and courses at Delhi University.
  • The campus of this college is not that good; it doesnt support any societies and does not provide funds to them, despite charging society fees.
  • The canteens are good. We have two canteens in our college: one is the Coke Canteen, and the other is the Aunty Canteen. At the Coke Canteen, we have junk foods like burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and donuts. Our burger is seriously better than McDonalds.
  • I applied for this course online. I preferred this college over others because it has a good rating, i.e., 4.5. I used the website du.nic.in while choosing this college.

Dislike

  • There were no job opportunities, placements, internships, or industry visits by the college.
  • Its not that good. Wifi is available but with no coverage. The library doesnt have enough books available for loan. The equipment in the labs is really good. Overall, its not that bad and not that bad either. The college doesnt have an auditorium.
  • I preferred PG instead of college hostel because the hostel services were too bad and far away from college. I pay 10000 for a month, which includes food, but you have to pay the electricity bill separately

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is unique and not offered by many colleges. Food processing and packaging is a booming industry, so the scope of this course was high, hence I chose it. Faculty to student ratio is great with about 8-9 faculty for a class of 45 students, So around 1:5. The faculty are highly qualified, with PhDs, and have on-field experience in the industry as well. The term exams happen at the end of each semester, and passing is not difficult if preparations are adequate.

Remarks:

Applying on the Delhi University Admissions Portal and applying to the college based on the cut-off percentage was the primary procedure. The Application forms, fees and date were all available online by a simple Google Search. No reservation benefits availed. Admission process was smooth, no improvement requisite as such.
